Equipping a Police Department

El Tejon,
I have no problem with that. Worked with a personally owned weapon for several years. Believe it or not, the cost of a decent firearm would keep many good people from working on small departments. We have departments in this area who are composed totally of part time officers who make from $7-12 an hour. You'd be surprised what kind of equipment you see these guys buy for themselves. Unfortunately, cost is usually the deciding factor. So on my dept. I would reimburse the officer. That way a good applicant wouldn't refuse the job because he couldn't afford to buy decent equipment.

All right

El Tejon, Jeff, and Keyhole
You all got it right. I like the Idea of repayment or at least partial repayment of the first weapons cost.
Training Training Training that is the only way to avoid lawsuits. The weapon used so long as it is functioning properly and is of good Quality is secondary.
Keyhole, 30 and less is a small department huh? I'm working with the largest department in my 23 years all 6 of us. Oh yeah and 5 reserves. Set guideline for handguns and let the Officer make a personal choice.
Also I take any school I'm offered. Going to 2 schools and an update this year.
The country boy around here don't mind shotguns but you have to prove you instruction can make them better before they will listen to you.
