my comment is that it is made by IWI in israel and imported to the us by magnum research ;)

Silly and useless, but I still want one. The only one I've ever fired was extremely unreliable, though. Couldn't get through a full magazine except by luck. Honestly don't know if that's typical.

It's incredibly big and heavy, making it impractical for anything but show and/or goofing around at the range unless they allow hunting with semi-automatic pistols where you live. The price makes the weapon all but unjustifiable related to its utility, and the ammunition is extremely expensive unless you reload it.

All in all, an interesting piece of engineering, but not much more than an ego-feeder.

I shot a 44mag DE, and I could not avoid getting my big knuckle on my thumb from getting cut by the slide. I had to lower my grip to keep it from doing it.

Other then that it shot accurately. They are way over priced, and most people that I have seen shoot them can't hit the side of a barn. They really aren't that impressive anymore.

Let's see, in the last few posts, the 50AE Desert Eagle is:

silly
useless
unreliable
impractical
unjustifiable
an ego feeder
no good except as a movie prop

You guys forgot: ugly, clumsy, and gaudy. Did I leave anything out?

As usual...folks either love or hate the Desert Eagle; especially the 50AE. I fall into the first group. My 50AE is totally reliable, not expensive to shoot with good reloads, much more pleasant to shoot than a large magnum revolver, in short, lots of fun to own and shoot....which is why 99% of us own and shoot the guns we have in the first place.

I myself find it pretty cool looking. Don't know, but I actually like the way it looks and feels in my hand, but I think perhaps a high caliber like that it would be better for shooting bears or mooses at point blank range than anything else. It has a real sexy, scary powerful appeal, I think just pulling this on some BG alone would make him s*ht his pants. Perhaps, the .44 caliber model is more practical. Many told me the .44 DE is highly accurate and not bad with recoil.

ok I think we may have a pretty good discusion on this one.
my opion is that it is a powerful hunk of steel that will make any man **** himself just looking down the barrel. think of it this way if it jams or runs out of ammo it's heavy enough to throw at someone and cause probably the same amount of damage as a glancing shot with a round.

i've got a 50 ae desert eagle. i have no illusion of using it for self defense or concealed carry.

i do however, like it for hunting and staying sharp w/ open sights on the 100 yard range.

i think their unique look is part of the appeal. lots of folks dislike them for the same reasons i like them.

anyway, i enjoy mine.
