Hello Everyone,

Over the years I have seen a variety of conversion by a variety of companies to adapt the Remington 700 action to take detatchable magazines. Sadly my favorite conversion by Robar, which allowed M-14/M-1A magazines to be used, has been discontinued due to the amount of required labor.

I've reviewed HS-Precision's system and it looks good, but the extra magazines are very expensive in the $60 to $75 range.

Although Remington's own detatchable magazine system is well designed I would like more than four rounds available. Ideally something like 10-rounds for my purposes.

Jon Tank used to offer what he called a "quick clip conversion" a few years ago, but he got out of the Remington 700 game.

Can anyone direct me to a gunsmith or company who offers a quality conversion or magazine system for the Remington 700?

I saw an article on the Savage Scout rifle that said that FAL magazines can be easily modified to use in the Savage. With the right ammo, these little rifles are MOA shooters!

Robar. And you can get an AI AICS stock set which uses detachable mags. I'm not sure if they're M14 mags though.

Biff: Do you have a source for that magazine article or details on what would have to be done for the conversion?

Daniel: Does the Accuracy International stock set really work with the AI magazines reliably?

Remington's detachable magazine design isn't that great. It has two side latches that wear quickly and allow the mag to rock back and forth. For a quick and easy conversion, get the H-S. The trigger guard is steel instead of aluminum, and adds a bit of rigidity to the rifle and extra protection to the trigger.

I've heard the M14 mag conversion isn't all its cracked up to be. Mainly because the M14 mag has to be modded to work in the modded rifle.

I have a "Quik Klip" conversion, new in the box, will sell for $65, delivered to 48 states. The mag is stamped for all of the '06 and 7 Mag, 300 Mag, etc. One size fits all, I guess.

Anthony-

The article was in one of the big gun magazines (Shooting Times or G&A) a few years back when the Scout rifle first came out. Sorry I can't be any better help than that. Doing a comparison of a Savage magazine and an FAL magazine at the local gun store may provide some illumination.
