DHS says people with handguns, rifles, and shotguns may be terrorists

You know...one rifle and 100 rounds of ammo in the hands of a man determined to commit multiple murders... makes a terrorist.

It is a MINDSET...not a basket full of equipment.

I am/was a founding member of DHS. At the time I could see the need, possibly, of such an organization. BUT, the "homeland" portion of it was too reminiscent of Soviet Union nomenclature for my taste, so I was leery of what it could become. Sad to say the rulers have turned it into the Stassi.

What would be funny, if it wasn't so scary, is that I'm now part of the "enemy" list. White male conservative veteran gun owner. Go figger.

So if I am a plumber and a Relaoder I could be charged for having the materials to make.a pipe bomb . DHS just proved they are bigger idiots than I had believed.

To the person talking about opening mail, they already do that here. Every letter I have written to Congress that has got a reply mail has been physically opened and then delivered to me that way. They aren't even trying to hide it now. And I don't mean this as a once or twice thing, I mean at least 12 times. I guess they are wondering what any member of Congress is doing talking to a lowly citizen such as myself.

The google map satellite pictures of my house is all the proof I need to be convinced that we are being watched. ... The government has the ability to read my newspaper on my front porch ... some conspiracy theories make a lot more sense now.
You're sooo worried about satellite images, and yet you put THIS at the bottom of every post you make on a public internet forum?
357 Taurus Gaucho, 22 Heritage RR, 3-1858 NMA Remingtons(2-44 1-36), 2-1851 Navies, 31 Baby Dragoon 4", 12 ga H&R, 16 Ga Western Field, 43 Spanish Remington Rolling Block, 44 ASM Colt Walker, NAA 22 black powder, HP C9 9mm, IJ top break 32 S&W short, H&R 1904 32 S&W, CZ-50 32acp

I must strenuously agree with those in the "reading comprehension is fundamental" camp. Those of you saying, "they're calling having all these guns terrorism!!!" are guilty of dumbing down our discourse to a dire degree.

No where did this memo say that folks who own guns and ammo need to be watched. It provided some pretty general guidelines for a SERIES of tell-tale signs to watch out for which MIGHT be indicative of a deeper look. And in no case did the examples given indicate someone being arrested SIMPLY for lawful ownership of weapons.

No, being stopped for an illegal lane change while on your way to the range with your gun collection is not IN ANY WAY going to get you labeled as a terrorist. And this memo doesn't begin to suggest that it would. (Now, get stopped ILLEGALLY in possession of those weapons, AND a few IEDs you cooked up... see the difference?)

I know hyperbole and paranoia are fun like candy. But we have to be smarter if we want to see and address the REAL problems and not be befuddled by the smoke and noise.
