Springfield .22 bolt action when I was 14. I still use it for squirrels. I had the use of my dad's 12 gauge JC Higgins pump, but the .22 was mine.

Nope, but I wish I had, it would've saved me some time getting over jerking and flinching developed from starting out on an aught six!

Yep. I've got bigger calibers and with one exception (.22-250) they aren't 'fun' to shoot. They get the job done but who wants to shoot .300 Win Mag all day? :D

Lived on a farm and dad was afraid I might accidentally hit live stock beyond line of sight. Started with a BB gun at 5 or 6 and went to a 16 gage break open single shot at 8 or 9. Was 11 or 12 when I finally got a rolling block single shot .22.

I had a Western Auto single shot bolt action. I was only handed one cartridge at a time when hunting, after crossing the fence, and had to return it before we got back to the truck.

Dampoo

I was only handed one cartridge at a time...

I have a good friend who is about 70 now, and still an avid deer-hunter, who once told me that his dad taught him with that method. 410 shotgun, but one shell at a time, with the direction that he only gets another shell by bringing home a squirrel. My friend said it (by necessity) taught him a life-long lesson about patience and shot-placement discipline.

Yup, Remington M597 LSS.
One of the first models that came with that really troublesome plastic magazine. Got two metal ones in exchange for the plastic one when I sent it back to Remington.
I've got roughly 7000+ rounds through it so far. The bolt has a tear in the metal body now and I just repaired the trigger sear spring that popped off a month or two ago.
I dunno about the newer one's but don't overtighten the bolt guide rods at all, it'll lead to more jams. Also, stay away from the 30 rounds mags. Other than than that after I broke it in (2000 or so rounds) it feeds flawlessly.

I can't remember exactly which one it was, but it was either an old H&R topper .410 that was rebranded 'Bridge Gun Company', or a Raven arms .25 ACP that fit my little hands just about perfectly back then.

I learned to shoot a Mossberg model 43 on my grandpa's place in Central Texas. I still have that rifle -- it was my dad's. It is my go-to gun for local rabbits and coyotes, since it is heavy and accurate and holds 15 rounds in the tubular magazine.

I had a Mossberg 22lr semiauto rifle that I got for xmas back in 1964. I put a cheap 4x scope on it and enjoyed it for years. Wish I still had it.

marlin model 60. my brother has it now but i have one my wife has one and i have one for each of the kids when i graduate them to semi auto. i decided to start my kids on a bolt. bought elisabeth a daisy dont remember the model offhand but its a neat little bolt action with 10rd rotary mag. dont know ill buy trigger his own to start with or just use elisabeths when she outgrows it but since hes only 2months old i have plenty of time to think about it.

It was a Ruger 10/22 that was my first true real gun.

I of course shot air rifles years before that..

Dad bought me a Chipmunk .22 when I was 5. First firearm I ever shot. Later, when I had outgrown the Chipmunk, Dad gave me a BL-22 with the stock cut down for me. I still have both. Maybe they'll be used to teach some youngsters in my future.

Stevens .410 bolt action shotgun. The first time I was offered a chance to shoot a .22 I was afraid it would kick harder than the Stevens .410. What did I know, I was about 6 years old. Wish I still had that old Stevens shotgun

I started shooting a h&k usp 9mm and a sig p229 in .40s&w. Shot those for a while. First gun I purchased was a s&w629 .44mag which prior to that the most powerful round I had shot was the .40s&w.

Yeah, just got my first .22lr, a Marlin 60. I love it.

Kind of built up a lot of fundamental marksmanship practice on air guns though.
