Dillon 550 - full length resizing issue

I put a whopping 6 factory rounds down range through the ARP barreled rifle and recovered all the cases. Deprimed the 6 cases and proceeded to full length resize them, trim OAL, and deburr the case mouths.

Results
  • The cases from the ARP rifle sized correctly
  • With minimum shoulder bump all cases chambered easily and fell out under their own weight when the bolt was retracted

That narrows the focus substantially. We know factory ammunition runs and your size die can’t return some brass fired in other arms to dimensions your rifle will accept.

I suppose if all of your .223 ammunition won’t run in all of your .223 rifles, your stuck with keeping them sorted anyway though.

As for your shoulder position being different, if you know what that number is, just lock the ring to the die and place/remove a 7/8 arbor shim between the lock ring and press of the correct thickness.

Quick, easy and repeatable. This set should cover it for less than $15.

There are some setups that are not shim friendly though and something like this works great for precise adjustments.
