Ok, there's been quite a few ND posts lately and, please, keep 'em coming. A million and one things can go wrong and, I guess, here's mine. This happened about 3 years ago:

To begin with, I wasn't thinking. I was at the range (outdoor range) and had a friend staying with me as my friend was thrown out of her house a week earlier by her husband and she and her children had no where to go. I put them up at my place (an efficiency at the time... talk about cramped...).

Her husband had pulled a lot of stupid things including assaulting her while I was there (a.k.a. witness). She had left to pick up her children from a weekend visit with their father about 2 hours before this. I got a call on my cell that he had submitted his paperwork to the courts before he even through her out and a week before she was served the papers. He filed for custody as well.

Being somewhat angry at this jerk and worried about my friend, I stopped paying attention to what I was doing and started filling my BP speedloaders from a fresh 1# can of Pyrodex P (works great in my Hawken).

Because of this distraction, I was holding a 1 pound hand grenade... with a lit cigarette in my mouth. When I realized (I had a friend with me...) what I was doing, I felt as dumb as a box of rocks.

Since then, I don't do anything with regards to shooting or reloading when I'm angry. I was lucky. Nothing went boom and I still have my fingers. But I also have a very important lesson learned.

Pay attention all, not just n00bs. It can happen in the blink of an eye. Learn from those of us that have narrowly missed winning a Darwin award.

Well let's see, since we are confessing,,,,
I used to keep a DSA FAL in a closet by the front door, empty chamber, loaded magazine, just in case.
Anyway I decided to do a routine cleaning.
Pulled the rifle out, yanked the bolt back to check the chamber as empty and then removed the loaded magazine!! DUH!
Dropped the hammer so I could go ahead and take it down and fired a bullet into the ceiling beam.
It only takes a second of stupidity, thank goodness I was aware enough to practice good muzzle discipline.
