Hops;
Different situation with what I hope will be a positive result. Due to some scheduling conflicts for reasons that don't matter here, we have taken a Japanese exchange student into our home for about a month. She is a recently graduated high school senior, 18 years old, & now speaks fairly decent english. She has been a friend of my daughter's in school & had a good idea of what she was going to get into with our family.
In any case, she has expressed an interest in learning to shoot. Which I have no objection to. The problem is finding a .22lr small enough for here. A good friend of mine is coming to town this week & is going to bring his Marlin 781, hopefully that will have a short enough pull on the stock to fit her. Although I have several .22's, all of them are American adult sized. My kids are long since out of the itty-bitty gun stage & that gun went years ago.
I could, and possibly will, buy a 15 series Marlin & put a Simmons .22 scope on it. But I don't really want to buy, use 2 or 3 times, and sell the next month. It's a hassle I don't need but will do in order to further her education.
Considering that Japan is one of the most anti-gun nations in the world today, I think it's great that I have the chance to show her that the 'party line' in Nippon, aint necessarily so. We've already started talking about safety & responsible behaviour with firearms.
I've got to admit that I'm looking forward to this almost as much as she is. It should, hopefully, be fun and educational. Which I'm going to be VERY careful with education aspects of the situation as her father is a professional educator in Japan.
Breaking down the entire situation into the least bits and building upon them, keeping it fun, and showing progress is a mental challenge I enjoy.
