do punisher grips make your 1911 "nerdy"...?

Billy shears, I agree with what you say in that it definetly is a possible (albeit unlikely) risk. I believe however, that the chances of these perfect storms gathering together to lock me away are pretty remote. But I concede to your point that having grips like these might be used against you. Again, the likelihood of that being the straw that breaks the camels back..... I doubt it. But your point is well taken.:)

Just saw a Colt Python "Snake Eyes" commemorative set on another website. Both Pythons sported ivory grips decorated w/ playing cards and dice.

[geek] Wouldn't it be cool if there were grips adorned w/ d20's on one side and a Black Lotus-Fireball combo on the other? [/geek]

Or would that invite a laywer to argue some Satan-worshipping angle? :p

This is America, and you don't have to ask anyone's permission on what to do with your 1911.

If you want to put Punisher grips on your gun, what difference does it make that most people will think you're a clueless interior deorator. You stand firm on your convictions.

I would have gone for humor and looked for a set with Mickey Mouse or Goofy.

If your 1911 is strictly a range gun then ignore this post . However if your 1911 is a carry / defense gun then ask yourself just how a jury will see said grips . Not that they are bad ( other than cheezy ) howevr perception can be all that . If you want something set into a set of grips my thoughts are get a brand if you have it , if you dont then get your initals or family/unit crest.

Hmmm...

If I was being Nifonged for defending my family, I wonder if I'd rather have the publicity hound DA parade my 1911 in front of the jury with the Punisher grips or the Grim Reaper ones...

That said, you sure don't need my permission, but if someone puts a "Punisher" gun down next to me at the range, I'd keep one eye on him at all times and so would any RSO worth his salt. It says, "I'm a pubescent dork who is dangerous with a gun!" all over it, to me.

Again, you don't have to pay attention to my opinion. It's a free country. But you did ask.

IMO, one of the things that's cool about the 1911 is that the grips are cheap. You can get some really fancy wood for under 50 bucks. Try that with a nice rifle or shotgun.

i always though it would be cool to have a set of custom 1911's that nicolas cage's character used in the movie "Face/Off"

a set of springfield armory gold plated 1911's with v-12 porting. i think it just reeks of style and class...

i also have to agree, if you are carring this for self defense, stay away from the skull, bad boy terminator stuff. a few magazine i read have several reports of guys being hammered by the jury for using "big bad" guns like that, i partucularly remember a guy getting sentenced for using a colt cobra. if it would have been a more civilized name like a colt defender, well...

nice kimber by the way, what is that, the custom TLE series?

Those are cool grips. I think it's a little rash to judge somebody by the grips they have on their gun........ I would think that the bigger indicator of thier character would be their demeanor and their regard for human life. There are many things that could be construed by others as "immature" or "pubescent",(grown men spending lots of money on guns when they already have multiple ones at home) that being said, they are entitled to their opinion and so are we.

i think it would be cool to have some diamond plate grips or damascus steel grips like the ones at the link Supernaut posted.
$375 bucks a pair though...

this is either nerdy of completely bad-ass im not shure which.

This is true enough, however those are things which cannot be discerned at a glance. Grips are. It may not be fair, but people will judge you based on appearances, and you really don't have any call to be surprised at getting exactly the reaction ArmedBear described. After all, we've all of us likely seen macho dumb@$$es at the range. Around here where I live, they're usually young guys in the Navy, with their re-enlistment bonus or the money that's piled up in their account while they were on their last deployment burning a hole in their pocket, and the go out and blow it on a Desert Eagle or an S&W .500 because they've got to have the biggest, baddest gun they can lay their hands on.

Punisher grips will just look like a slightly different flavor of the same macho impulse to most people, and people will think you're a Rambo wannabe, be your range etiquette never so good.

do punisher grips make your 1911 "nerdy"...?
In my book? 100%, absolutely, positively yes. But it ain't my gun!

I'm right there with you. Of course, that's painting with a big brush, but...

WOW!!! and I thought caliber wars stirred up the hornet's nest...

Thank you, everyone who responded. I agree, there is the very real possibility that some hotshot DA may try to use the grips against me, but as long as I'm not DRESSED like The Punisher and stalking downtown for muggers, then really making it stick as well as they dream is going to difficult.

I have seen more votes that read along the lines of "you like it, do it/your money, your gun" than "grow up" type comments, and I was going to do it regardless, because I think it would look cool, and also when it comes to these sorts of things that what the little voices in my head start suggesting....

However, I also have to agree that they may not be the best idea to have on a carry gun, if/when I do have to fire in HD or SD. They would reside mainly on my range gun, while the Taurus would be my main carry gun. Grips just seem to me to be one of those things that are much easier to personalize, and much cheaper than damascing or engraving.

And, yes, I did see the Boondock Saints grips, but I don't think they were offered black grip/white emblem, which is what I'm looking for. OTOH, the DA may or may not make the jump in logic with the Boondock Saints as easily as he can with The Punisher...

punisher = vigilante

might make your good shoot look bad. if you already have a carry gun or HD gun and the 1911 is only for range fun, then maybe. but why do you want to match your nice 1911 to your taurus?

Its a gun, not a middle schoolers lunch box.
Well put, I agree.

And I'm sorry, that movie was just horrible. I saw some of it on TV.......what trash. :barf:

"do punisher grips make your 1911 "nerdy"...?"

Only if you entertain Punisheresque fantasies.

If you like 'em, go for it. Nothing wrong with it, and I think the picture of the black with silver skulls on it looks quite styling.

Heck, Houge grips can be quite suspicious/incriminating too. Thing about it, their purpose is to make your weapon more controllable, plus they are black and evil-tactical-secret-squirrel-esq looking. I could just see a DA going "waddaya need those assault grips for? In a hurry to shoot more people?"

Your gun, your grips, I think.

I also personally think it's a bit mall ninja-esque, but if you like it, go for it. If I saw you shooting on the range, I probably wouldn't think less of you unless you then started asking advice on what body armor to wear in case people start shooting 300 Win Mag at your back in the mall parking lot, etc.
