Do we have a Hi-Power Club?

Doesn't the "Practical" have a chrome finished frame? I have the "Silver Chrome" model I bought in 1994, and Browning was selling the Practicals along side that model. I always liked the Practical and the two tone finish.

Yes it is chrome.

VAgunner...very nice!

I haven't pursued having the trigger worked over, this is one that has been on my mind. The rough finished Parkerized mags vary in feel and a few of the blued variants also make for a different trigger feel. :( Don's prices are reasonable.

can't tell mines age

I have a Canadian MK1* with serial starting with 2T. I am going crazy trying to find manufacture date. I am under the impression from my readings it is a 1944 model. Any direction would be appreciated!!

I don't know a lot about Inglis HP's, but if I remember right, they were all made starting in February 1944 to the last in September 1945.

ive been strongly considering getting a belgian made hi power as my primary, go-to pistol.. its on my list along side the 1911 and the EAA witness, my only problem is im still not 100% sure which caliber i want to really focus on

The GP-35 High Power was designed around the 9MM Get that,

rushtk:

2T's were built between September and October 1944.

2T1123 and before in September.

2T1124 and after in October.

Hope that helps :)

I'm with Pilot; I would stick with the tried and true 9mm. version. Out of all the Hi-Powers I have used over the years my Mk.II has to be one of the best. Though not as nicely finished as it's blued brethren, with it's improved sights, easy to use safety, and decent trigger pull it is one the most practical and best shooting Hi-Powers I have found.

As others have stated the BHP was designed for the 9mm but it was later redesigned to accommodate the 40 S&W round. There are even 357 Sig conversions.

Also do not over look the 30 Luger. There are not a ton of them out there but they exist.

I have owned a 40 but did not like the balance vs the 9mm. All my current ones are 9mm.

Nice BB :D.

While "fond" ;) of all my BHPs, I've got to admit that I've done/had done custom work on virtually all BHP vintages...from the "T"s of the '60s forward anyway, EXCEPT my MkIIs. I might have removed an MDS or two, maybe very gently cleaned-up a trigger and/or added a set of Pachs like BB...but other than that, my MkIIs remain stock :D.

Besides, practicality has a beauty all its own ...

I like them customized. I love them stock too... My Israeli trade in. Got is this way except for the grips.

You’ve got some REALLY nice BHPs WVS...enjoy seeing 'em every time they come up :D.

Again…FWIW, I'm fond of all my BHPs...even the .40s :uhoh:;)...but the 9mmP IS what the BHP was designed for and there's just something about the forged frame...v. the cast frame, that feels "just right".

As for the “others”:

The 7.65P (.30 Luger) is VERY soft shooting...but expensive to feed and of "limited" use outside the neat to have/fun factor ;).

A properly fit...think Don Williams, .40/357Sig BarSto Conversion is a joy to behold...as is the .40/9mmP BarSto conversion :D.

The defunct...for a reason ;), .41AE Conversions...have a reputation as being hard on the forged frame BHPs they were intended for and have...at times, be frustrating...and honestly, have become just odd conversation pieces . Mine only get used with cast frame BHPs now.

If there's one BHP I "NEED":scrutiny:;):D, it's one of the 9x21mm BHPs intended primarily for the Italian market. I've never seen one for sale...outside Europe :(

WVS...MDS or no?

MDS is removed. Yeah people pay insane prices for the Uncle Mikes. I grab them up if I find them for a reasonable price. Which is rare these days.

I tried to buy a Don William .357 Sig he had lying around in his shop. IIRC a project he started for someone who never completed it. He mentioned it on the 1911 forum and I called him about it the next day but someone had already grabbed it up.

Sorry WVS, I guess I was editing #289...correcting MDS to FPS, exactly when you posted your response

DW's work IS amazing, just got back one of my .40s he low mounted a set of BoMars on :D

some people who are seemingly concerned with the mag capacity of hi powers being generally low, they do fit a 15 round mag flush, but when you look at the length of the grip and compare it to the CZ-75, the hi power has a grip length better compared to the compact CZs, not the full size, so if you could get 17 round mags for them, the total height of the pistol would be about the height of a CZ-75.. so mag capacity is generally the same as any other considering the grip length

Bomars are nice. That is my beater 1969 C series that I bought for $400. I swapped out the thumb safety with a C&S part. I need to redo the red insert on the front sight.

Knew you'd appreciate the BoMars WVS

The recent DW/BoMar .40 compliments my '86 Behlert/Bomar , though the DW is mounted all the way back...as I specified, similar to yours, the Behlert is mounted ever so slightly further forward...

So sweet!!!

The disadvantage of the all the way back or slightly off the slide install is sometimes you have to modify the hammer. I wish I could find a Behlert he was a master.

What happened to what I wrote :banghead:?

Anyway...thanks WVS :D.

AB really was something, he sure did some innovative stuff ;). The retail front of his shop was downright tiny and his workshop in the back not much bigger ;).

And, you are certainly correct re: hammer clearance. DW "windowed" the bottom of the rear sight face to clear the hammer...much like is often done when low mounting 1911 Novaks on a BHP

I have a stock MKIII that I am debating on where to send for some work. I am thinking about Garthwaite or back to Don Williams.

The work he did not my alloy is amazing. I get a big smile every time I shoot it. :D

Somebody say Behlert? I'm thinking about selling it. Sadly, I got a car I need to fix. Email hootATmacDOTcom if you're interested. I probably won't be able to get back to you till Monday.
