and if you do how much faster is a full auto than bump firering? I don't do it offten but i have been known to run through a clip every now and then at the end of the day when i get other shooters asking how fast i can get my AR to fire

No.... there is no benefit to it... it is a complete waste of ammunition. Sure you just shot your gun really fast, but completely missed anything you may have been shooting at.

to answer your other question, if done correctly, bump fireing can be just as fast in the semi-auto equivalent of a full auto gun.. the bolt is the limiting factor, not the trigger.

Good Ole Jerry MiKulec can bump fire a 1911 at 674 rounds per minute..skip to 5 min 15 sec.

make your own judgement there...

BUT... what is the point? really

Waste of time and ammo, what's the point of comparing full auto unless you have a full auto? It doesn't really matter how fast you can shoot if you can't hit the target and are just spraying all over the place, its more impressive than what you can hit. That said, if you can bump fire and hit a target then that would be impressive.

buy an m16 bolt assy. doesnt make it anything illegal. they wiegh a little more and will also cut down on recoil. but that might not be good for "bump" fire, cuz isn't that based on recoil? i dunno i have never done any bump firing, never wanted to waste the coin.

I have a couple of times, just to do it, with both SKS and US Rifle Cal .30 M1

No real practical value that I can think of....

Who cares if it costs money and you don't hit what you are shooting at. I am assuming those who enjoy it are not trying to set any accuracy records.

Also what may be a waste of money to you is well spent to me.

I think shooting paper targets is about as wasteful as it gets.

well, shooting paper is more productive than shooting air no matter how fast you do either.

cheaper to shot air.........ya don't have to wast money on the paper targets......heeheheheh

not like it's all i do......... but everynow and again it's fun.....and isn't that what this is all about. Thered is no real reson that you should own a $800-1700 rifle anyway

Would those who say bump firing is a waste of ammo and money say the same if you owned a fully automatic firearm?

i have a Ranch mine with a bi pod & the staple in it. & i can put a lot of rounds down range fast & tear a 50 gallon drum all to hell. It cost just to much $$$$$ to do that kind of stuff anymore. But was fun while it lasted. i have tried to bump fire my colt sport AR but dont feel safe doing it. & big waist of ammo IMO. & no birdmang. i would love to have a three round burst.

The way to resolve all the arguing is simply join the military. They will let you shoot open bolt full auto in things much larger than .223/5.56 and it does not cost you a penny.

i can bump fire quit well.... i have found the trick is to make sure up keep forwad pressure on your thumb......just this last week i i did 2 30rd mags in a row

Fired M16's on full auto an bump fire my AR15, neither one shoots faster.
Some people have fun spending a little money on ammo to bump fire once in awhile, an I'm one of them. Some people have fun spending alot of money on a rifle over 3000.00 an then only shoot it once in awhile...I know one guys that has thousands of $ wrapped up in guns an has never shot most of them. People's opinion on what is waste, what is fun, what is excessive an why you shouldn't or should do something is pointless.

I've bumpfired. It was fun.

I also like hitting stuff. That's more fun.

No biggie. If you like it, have at it. As long as your rounds are landing in a safe place, have fun.

I don't bumpfire. With an AR, however, I can shoot aimed shots on close targets at a rate of .86 seconds per shot- including tansitioning between targets and doing a mag change (the actual split time b/w trigger pulls is way less). If I coud shoot faster effectively, I would. Just blowing ammo- not something I'm interested in.

I find it to be a waste of perfectly good, otherwise accurate ammo...but whatever floats your boat...just be safe. :)

A full auto AR-15 is $11000-$12000 not $3000. LE and Military spend something like $700 each on M-16s. They cost the average Joe, $13000-$16000.

the onley time i do it is when i'm at my buddys farm....it's more than safe.......bean feilds for miles.....i can tell ya one thing everytime i do it it sure brings a smile to evryones face that is behind me.....and mine to. When i do go through 2 mags in a row the gun get real hot...i need to let it sit for about 20-30 min after

That about sums it up for me too.

My solution was to use Wolf ammo. Relatively cheap and it's not going to set any accuracy records to begin with.
