Don't get me started on pocket carrying w/o a holster.
You should read Ed McGivern's "Fast and Fancy Shooting". He was one of the quickest of his time, and some of his preferred carry methods were "nekkid gun". The one I remember was that he carried a 4" Model 10 S&W in his right jacket pocket,
barrel up. He used his left hand to slide in, grab the barrel, and draw, closing his right (shooting) hand as he did. And, he managed to beat the time to hit target of many guys shooting "speed rigs".
Back to the thread, I sometimes carry a P2AT in a DeSantis pocket holster. If an IWB will work I carry my old single-action-auto AMT .380 backup. I won't carry the AMT without a holster, as the safety is too easy to wiggle its way into a "hot" position. There's still the grip safety, but it makes me uneasy to just drop it in a pocket (and, it ways a ton to be as small as it is, it's all SS.)
Be glad for the little .380's we have now, for years the best pistol we had of that size was a Browning or Bauer .25. I carried one when I couldn't do better, but I sure wasn't confident about it.
