I was never that keen on a shotgun. Buckshot is a solid ball at ranges measured in feet and doesnt open up much in a matter of yards. A pistol cal lever action suits me better, less blast, less recoil, similar aiming speed. I always saw the 'shot pattern' aspect of a shotgun more advantage as it is in the field, eg ranges more like "front yard'' level or targets moving across the line of vision, which is moving away from defensive purposes...
Whilst I'm not arguing against the "shootability" of a PCC (lever action or otherwise), the effect that buckshot has even before travelling enough distance to open up, is significant. From everything I've seen, it causes massive wounds. And we all know that if the attacker is determined - and so a psychological stop is not in the cards - there aren't too many ways to cause a physiological stop. Even at the sort of distance which would result in a 1" shot pattern, that's going to be a big nasty hole.
