I loaned a buddy a shotgun for a hunt. He ruined the stock and butt plate and, evidently, thought it made a good walking stick when climbing a hill. I looked it over in front of him, looked him in the eye in disgust, and told him never to ask to use anything of mine again. I still loan guns, but only to a select few who I know treat borrowed things better than their own things.

Everyone that I know of that are into hunting has guns, but I do have relatives that visit from out of state, and have used my guns,as well as fishing equipment.I haven't had anything tore up.I did have a cousin get a round stuck in an old 98 I had,but that's nothing.I think most people try to take better care of something borrowed than the owner does,of course I guess there are some exceptions.

In my shooting circle of friends there are several that I've known, and shot with for many years. We'll lend stuff back and forth if someone wants to try something new or different. We all take care of our things and each others'. We all know that if something breaks, we'll take care of it.
Obviously, this is based on mutual trust, observed actions/behavior and judgement.

Sure I do!
I compete in NRA High Power and Smallbore Metallic Silhouette. I often loan a rifle and provide ammo for someone interested in giving it a try.

It's a great way to bring newbies into the sport. You might be surprised how excited a newbie gets when he knocks down his first 500 meter ram - offhand! :D

I lent a friend (Jim) my Mini 14 probably 7-8 years ago when his son had about out-grown his .22. Said son graduated to a .243 several years ago.
Jim is also a Scoutmaster, and a fair number of Boy Scouts (including his son) have gotten to shoot that Mini over the years.
Just got that Mini back a month or so ago. :)
Still looks great; now I have to go out and shoot it.

Lent another friend my 1911 so he could take his CHL range test. He shot it well, and it gave him the confidence to take the test. Then he went and bought a couple smaller guns for carry purposes. He has taken his wife to the range recently, but she is not at all happy with either his 642 or his LCP, so I may lend him a few others for her to try.

Another friend has been taking his wife shooting, and again, she does not like then guns he owns, so I offered to let him try a few of mine for her to try some weekend.

One final guy is a co-worker who is also a rangemaster at my local range. He expressed some interest in my recently-purchased Kimber Solo, and I offered to lend it to him some weekend. He has at different times borrowed my Kahr PM9, my Kahr CW380 and my 638.

Note that all of these people are long time friends and CHL holders, and 45-55 years old. I'm not the slightest bit concerned about their trustworthiness...if I were, I wouldn't make the offer.
