Do you twirl your Single Actions?

No, The responsibility of owning guns and the safety of other prohibit this.
I take my ownership and right to carry more serious than that.

Showing off of any kind will get you no-where as far as respect goes from others, and will usually end up in a world of hurt one way or the other.

Don't believe what you see on TV. It's for entertainment, not a learning experience. Very little of it can be applied to real life.

Sometimes. I think a lot of folks do but are afraid to admit it. I'm not trying to compete with those who do it as part of their exhibition but it's fun to try and perfect the road agent spin.

It violates 3 of the 4 rules...
So does cleaning.

As usual the safety police will be out in full force on this one.

No. I'd end up dropping my gun :D

Some pretty surprising folks were very good at this trick. Try a search on You Tube for "sammy davis gun" and you'll turn up a lot of old B&W videos of some pretty amazing spinning.

Not since I got past the age of 10 years old. My current guns all are too heavy for my old fingers to handle a twirl. I'm just trilled I can still see and have enough strength to shoot them often.

That's why I practice over the bed or at the very least a carpeted floor. ;)

Jerry Lewis was really good too! I found one video of him on YouTube doing his thing with a Colt.

Yes I'll admit it. I ride a motorcycle without a helmet, I don't wear a life jacket when boating and I eat steak too. That ought to get the hand wringing goin.

No, beyond the safety issue, this sums up my thoughts on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJQ7T2ACDqw

vid description: two guys in an arena, one of them does a bunch of flips and spins showing off for the crowd, ending when he handsprings his face into the one and only punch his opponent throws.

THAT is the other one that I was trying to think of. Who in blazes would have expected the original Nutty Professor to be such a firearms nut that he would have found time to develop such skills?

Some where along the way if I end up with some piece o' junk revolver that would be too dangerous to actually shoot I may try some slinging. But it would be one of those life skills that is well down the priority list. Sort of like being good at BMX stunting, kite boarding or playing mumblitypeg and having all my fingers still intact.... :D

Wasn't that a viral marketing video for the film "Never Back Down"?

Besides, no one is talking about spinning in a fight to show off or intimidate your opponent. Just a little self-amusement.

I outgrew that when I got old enough to move up to real guns. I let an idiot handle one of my single actions once, and he decided to give it a spin before I could stop him, dropping it on a hard floor, and breaking the hammer.

Many decades ago I had a chance to interview one of two still living Territorial Arizona Rangers. I ask him a lot of questions about how things really were “back then,” and he straightened me out about some popular, but incorrect presumptions. One question I had was, “Did he ever do any gun twirling or other gun-handling tricks?” His short answer was:

“No, and I never knew anyone who did.”

For the record, I don’t either.

Of course I twirl my single action revolver. I also have one of those big round hoops on my Win lever action rifle so I can spin it around, too.

absolutely not. this is NOT treating the gun as if it is ALWAYS loaded. this is how irresposible accident happen. also cant do the gun any good.

I don't have any incorrect presumptions about how things were "back then". History is my business. In fact, my love of history is the primary reason for my hatred of most Westerns (that and the fact that they're not very good anyway).

It's not about trying to emulate the TV or some attempt to live in "history". I just think that gun spinning is neat.

I try not to twirl anything as a general rule for life. Twirling leads to other nonsense activities like frolicking and scampering! Unacceptable I say!!!!!!! No no, stop that silliness right now thank you.

I'm picturing John Clease's voice saying this...........

Seriously though, I only twirl them when they are loaded and with the hammer cocked. The danger of possibly killing myself or someone else makes it extra thrilling!

I'm still trying to master driving my truck with one hand, firing a gun into the air with my left hand, and screaming YEEE HAAAA, all at the same time. Any help on that?

Sorry, I'll stop now.

Twirling is dangerous and pointless. So that's a negatory on the original question.

I twirl my DA guns all the time. My kids think it's cool. I also drink from a garden hose. :D You should see me juggle....I can juggle 3 DA revolvers and ride a 6 foot unicycle at the same time.
My brother was moving a couple of years ago and I saw his unicycle in the back and I asked if I could give it a try (it had been 20 years). My teenage boys didn't believe me so I had to show them up. I mounted the unicycle and juggled 3 tennis balls at the same time. My boys jaws dropped and then I dropped and blew out my knee. I lasted about 10 seconds, but I felt the warm spotlight one last time and my boys got a kick out of it.:D:D
