Does such a beast exist

Hate to say this, but your wish list points to the the HK P7. Everything you are asking for, except for having to learn a new manual of arms (squeeze the grip instead of a DA trigger) . But flat, slick, reliable, very accurate and easy to shoot well.

The only problem is prying one out of the cold dead hands of an HK collector...

Sig 225 or 239

For the past 2 years I switched to carrying a Sig 239 .40 . Exceedingly accurate and reliable but it is very heavy compared to a Shield . However when the .40 goes off, you want that weight.

Have to agree with most here on the Sig p239. I just ordered one and should have it by the end of the week. I haven't shot it yet, like David, I couldn't find anywhere locally that would rent one, but after handling one I knew it is going to be good. I ordered the 357 Sig, for the stopping power it provides, and because by design, it should have no feed issues at all.

I've had no prior experience with them so I apologize up front if they are a total crapturd, but the taurus 3.5" 809 Blue 9mm seems to fit the description of what your looking for. The width may differ a bit at 1.14". But it is a similar configuration and may hopefully give you another choice to look at.

Disclaimer; I'm going only off of what I have seen on their website and read online. I have never had a first hand experience with any of their models.

I skimmed through and didn't see anyone mention the Beretta 92FS Compact Type "M". It is a single stack version of a standard 92FS Compact. They only made it for a short while, and they are really hard to find, but it is another pistol to add to your list.

Or the gun the Berretta 92 was based on, the Walther P-38, or later aluminum frame P-1.

Not exactly what I had in mind but I have to say it looks like an awesome pistol and I would love to have one, if they weren't so hard to find and so expensive. The last one I saw was selling for over $2,000.00

The S&W model 39 sounds like another possibility. My dad has a 59 and I really like it, it just seems way to bulky for carry. If I understand correctly the 39 is a skinny 59?

As others have said SIG P239 or P225 or Smith 3913/3914 although I sold my P239 because it has kinda a fat grip for a single stack and doesn't carry any better than a P228/P229. I also find a 69XX series Smith to be very nice to carry. I'd recommend looking at all of them.

Before I go out and buy a new pistol I want to give the G43 a chance. I'm basically trying to come up with a plan B in case it either doesn't work out for me, or in case my wife steals it...

I ordered a set of after market sights for the G43 and according to the tracking number they should arrive today. I'm hoping that these will help.

I might just stick with the G43, the new sights made it alot easier to shoot. My groups are now smaller and closer to the point of aim than they were before.

I'll have to share the pistol with my wife though... or buy her a G43 of her own...

I also had a change to look at a Sig P239 (found one in .40 cal). It was bigger than I expected it to be, looked like a nice pistol though.

My P239 in 357 sig arrived last Saturday. It shoots straight, is a bit snappy with practice ammo, but not at all unmanageable. I expect it to be a bit more so with defense rounds but again don't expect it to be at all that much different. It fits nicely inside a Galco IWB holster, and I find it relatively comfortable.
