So I've been shopping around a very nice S&W 686 Plus with a 5" bbl and original Rosewood Combat Grips w/ medallions as trade fodder in my area. Was looking to trade for a S&W 44 mag, etc. Instead I received an offer from a guy who has a NIB S&W M+P15A AR looking to do a straight up trade.

I have no experience with the S&W ARs, but they seem to have decent reviews. As far as trades go, does this sound like a good one? Wasn't looking for another AR, but it's an interesting offer.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

I've got one. Mine doesn't have the fixed front sights though. I've fired probably 2k rounds through, no complaints so far. I recently bought a SW revolver new and the prices seem pretty comparable to a new MP AR15.

It seems like a pretty fair trade, but I say "get what you're going to be happy with."

Just a thought, but are you going to post a thread a couple years later saying that you had a 686 and wished you'd never sold it? :uhoh:

At the end of the day, it's only a good trade if you think it is. We can tell you "hell yeah!" all day long, but in the end, you're the one that's gotta live with the end result.

Do you want another AR bad enough to give the 686 for it? If so, go for it. If it's just gonna be another AR, maybe wait a little bit, at least do a little reading up on that particular model and see if it's what you can use.

Don't trade unless you are excited about it. Otherwise, you just end up with more trade fodder.

good advice.

I traded a Bushmaster + 5,30 round magazines + 700 rounds of WW fmj ammo for a S&W Model 29-2 p&r and am STILL happy about it if that tells you anything.
