I had a problem on Friday with my slide not going into full battery. Problem was solved here on the forum , bullet not seated deep enough. So what I did is I made up 3 "dummy" rounds dropped them into the barrel until it seated correctly and then assembled gun and made sure they cycled by hand. All cycled by hand no problem. Heres where my concern is. With the bullet seated deeper will the pressure go up? I believe the answer to that question is yes , so I am going to ask if these sound ok as far as loads go.

#1
5.1gr Unique
Sm Pistol Primer
Hornady 115gr XTP
OAL = 1.091 [anything longer won't hand cycle]

#2
5.1gr Unique
Sm Pistol Primer
Missouri Bullet 115gr LRN
OAL = 1.035 [anything longer won't hand cycle]

My concern is the pressure because of how far the bullet needs to be seated in order to cycle. Am I just worrying to much?

5.1 grains is below a 10% reduction max load with a 115 XTP seated 1.090" according to Lyman #49. (5.8 is shown as max)
Perfectly safe.

Your lead bullet load is well within starting load data too.

Do you have a set of calipers? Most recipes give you a cartridge overall length. If you don't like that idea many manufactures make case gauges. Just slide the completed round in. If it goes all the way in, you're good.

Yup , I have calipers. I originally loaded to "factory" specs and the rounds would not chamber. The bullets are of different shapes so they hit the rifeling at different spots so the OAL will be different lengths.

Man I just went through the same thing. These are Lee's 124g TC tumble lubed seated at 1.03. Tell you the truth though I have been running 4.4g Unique and it is a very pleasant and accurate round. I was shooting 4.7g Unique and the feel was hotter and accuracy wasn't improved so I backed up. The 5.1 will definitely go BANG at that length but should not be a problem. Don't know that I would take it much higher than that.

Went to the range today and "tested" these. They all went bang and cycled the slide no problem. Thank you rcmodel for all your help in solving my problem :)
