I know yet another Wal-Mart thread, but I was wandering if your local Wal-Mart sells guns and if they do, do they have handguns too? My Wal-Mart has rifles but no handguns. And I know of one in Phoenix that only sells ammo.

My local Walmart does not sell guns at all, has no ammunition, and barely sells any hunting or fishing supplies. On the other hand it does cater to a lot of whom I suspect are third world immigrants, but I use that definition lightly as my guess would be most are illegals. I am within driving distance of a Walmart that does ell rifles and ammo, but no handguns, but it is not really local.

3 Wally Marts within 20 miles. All 3 sell long guns, ammo and reloading components.

The last time I saw handguns in Wal-Mart was 2006 in Anchorage, AK. They had some BIG ones!

Nope, Wally World out here in Vista, CA, and every one around here I've been to, about half a dozen, and none sell guns of any type(BB And Airsoft excluded.) Just ammo.

Most wal-marts simply don't want to be bothered with the hassle inherent in the things... Many states/counties/cities have handgun-specific laws on top of the long gun laws, and wal-mart makes its money by -standardizing- so if it's a hassle, it's outside their best practices. Some areas, such as AK, may have it make sense, but for most of the country, just not worth it for them.

Walmart in Kodiak, AK Sells Both

Our local walmart here in Kodiak sells both rifles and handguns. The selection is mostly hunting rifles (Weatherby Vanguard, Ruger 77's, Remington 700's, 10/22), and revolvers (S&W 500, Ruger Red Hawks, Glocks, Springfield Armory 1911's, and various .22's). Typically we do things a little differently here up in Alaska and firearms are generally accepted as a way of life. Most chain stores offer some type of firearm selection. What do you expect from a state that trusts every law abiding citizen to carry concealed firearms without a license. Gotta love this State :) Alaska should act as a model for every other state in regards to concealed carry laws. Chaos did not ensue the day the concealed carry laws were put into effect. As a state we don't have any foolish waiting periods on purchases or firearms purchases limited to so many per month. It all comes down to how you were raised and what you accept as normal everyday life.

Due to ffl violations all of the local walmarts have quit selling cartridge guns. You can still get ammo and black powder rifles. Odd thing is every one talks about ammo but I have yet to find a walmart with 50-90 sharps 38 super or 30 remington.........so to me they really dont sell ammo.

3 in a 25 mile circle, one sells long guns all three sell ammo and accessories.
Wal-mart made the decision to stop selling handguns after some nutbag shot up a parking lot with a shotgun he bought someplace else. It was also about a year and a half after Sam had died and they had pretty well just finished sorting out the estate.

My local sells only ammo...one 10 miles away sells long guns...bought my first and LAST (Ruger 10/22) gun there...had to have a manager escort me out with my "evil" purchase...What a JOKE!!!

Wal-Marts where I live only sell fishing stuff, this is probably due to the fact that I live in East French Canada, LOL. ;)

Edit: The only Wal-Mart style place where they sell shooting stuff in Canada, is Canadian Tire, a Wallly-style place but with much more quality products, no food of course, but plenty of tires (d'oh!).
They sell hunting rounds, from the .22 to the (i don't remember exacly, but kind of everything that is hunting under .50), so no 9mm/.40/.45acp/etc, the only handgun round sold there is .22lr an other .22s.

3 within 15 mins of me and only one sells long guns. All 3 sell ammo but the one that sells long guns doesnt have as much ammo as the one up North.

Walmarts in many places have deleted guns because of the margins. The sad truth is they utilize more turn and profit per space with alternative products.
..and after all isn't that what corps are concerned with?

CRITGIT

Not only margins, but stupid lawsuits. The one in Denton, just up the road a piece, sold a rifle to someone who subsequently committed suicide with it.

Said loser's...I'm sorry, I meant "misguided yout's" family brought suit against Wal-Mart, looking for unspecified millions, because "they should have known".

I never heard the final disposition (if I had to guess, I would bet Wal-Mart settled) but the upshot is that I can't find a Wal-Mart that caries any firearms.

Ammo, yes, but I only buy the Federal 550-round bulk pack .22 LR.
