I am ready to load light 55g dogtown bullets for a pair of 243Win
Does anyone have a COL for the bullet?
How about powder and throw weights?
Currently stocking R22, 4350, 4895 powder

H4895 or IMR 4895? I am thinking on my Sierra 55 gr Blitzkings I am loading (and don't hold me to this as I haven't touched the load in 2 years) 44.5 or 44.0 grains of IMR 4895.

I haven't. The closest I have loaded is 65gr V-Max. Those little bullets work great with slow powders like BL-C(2) & IMR4064. They also work great with fast powders for reduced recoil.

I really like the 243Win. Seems everything works good in it.

I've loaded up and shot about 50 or so. I loaded them up at 2.430" - 2.435". Pretty darn short with a long jump, but any longer and not enough bullet in the case, any shorter, you get into the ogive of the bullet. Make sure you have good neck tension and I gave mine a light crimp with the Lee FCD.

I didn't have very high expectations for this bullet because of he super short OAL, so I decided to use them to make some plinking loads using Blue Dot. A word of caution, blue dot is a pistol/shotgun powder and is very dangerous to use in rifle due to the chance of a double charge not being detected. one must be extremely careful should you try using it.

I loaded up 18.0gr of Blue Dot and was rewarded with a very accurate bullet to 84 yards (that's as far as the range by me goes). Crossed the chrono at around 2850 fps out of my Marlin XS7. Again, I was very surprised with the accuracy.

You can google "Blue Dot 243" and find some very good posts by Seafire on some other forums.

I was going to load some up with either W748 or Varget, but I was happy with the results that I got. I think it would make a nice varmint round on the cheap.

I have loaded a few of them in my .243's to an overall length of 2.53". This doesn't leave much bullet in the case, but they seem to shoot the best loaded as long as possible. I tried some lighter loads with Accurate 2015 powder, as I was hoping for a light recoiling load for practice and varmints but all the cases came out covered with soot. Apparently the powder was too fast to generate sufficient pressure to seal the chamber. I wound up going with 45.0 gr of Varget (caution, near max load, start lower and work up) for around 3900 fps out of my Sako A-7.
One other comment regarding this bullet. It shoots okay in my Sako A-7. Okay meaning 3 shot groups around 1 to 1.5 inches at 100 yards from a benchrest. However, in my Stevens 200, the bullets pattern like a shot gun, with many striking the target sideways! (keyholing). If the Stevens was the only .243 I had, I would have to give away the 900 or so I have left. Luckily, I can use them in the Sako. I believe these bullets would be much happier in a 1 in 12" or 1 in 14" twist barrel. I might try some loads with Blue Dot, as it builds pressure much quicker than standard rifle powders, and would be very mild recoiling. I will do some more research first, as I don't want to put my new Sako A-7 at risk.

Stay under 20gr & everything should be great. 20gr will have just a little recoil.
