Patrolman Woods was shot and killed after responding to a domestic violence call. Patrolman Woods arrived at the call at approximately 1920 hours. After Patrolman Woods entered the residence, the suspect shot a woman who was inside, wounding her in the arm and leg. A struggle ensued between Patrolman Woods and the suspect, and Patrolman Woods was shot once in the head.

The suspect tried to escape out the back of the house, but he was confronted by an arriving officer who shot and killed the suspect.

Patrolman Woods was removed to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis where he died a short time later.

Patrolman Woods had been with the agency for seven years and is survived by his wife, a Deputy Jailer, two sons and a daughter. He was assigned to the East Precinct.

This is a good reminder of how dangerous domestic violence situations can be, and how quickly they can go south. If you hear the neighbors squabbling, be careful about checking it out.

What a Waste

It's true that domestics are the most dangerous. My dad told me the last time he got hurt in service was on a domestic. He responded to a scene where the guy was pounding on his wife. When he grabbed the guy to cuff him, the wife got a butcher knife and slashed my dad across the arm for trying to "take her man to jail". Bizarre how women will do that.
