Hi- just recently received a DTI upper and will be posting a more complete review of it.

I noticed the interior of the DTI upper receiver looked patchy and unfinished when compared to the smooth dark black of the outside surfaces.

I compared this to an late 90's bushmaster upper receiver interior and the BM is a completely even dark gray color. The exterior of the BM is not as dark black as the DTI though.

The DTI has some very sharp demarcations of where the exterior finish looks as if it was masked off from the interior. Particularly around the feed ramps.

The interior of the receiver around the rear of the BCG area are particularly "patchy". Almost a mottled look.

What do you guys think? (I'll post pics as soon as I can)

Could what you be seeing be dry lube? I've seen uppers that shipped with dark grey dry film lubricant sprayed into the inside of the upper. BSW

dry lub?

don't think so- I've rubbed the interior pretty well cleaning it
