Guys, post the dumbest thing you have heard about handguns (from antis to gunshop commandos).

I say the x-ray proof Glock is the best.

that by the mere act of holding a semi-automatic handgun a normally rational person is transformed into a raving lunatic who must be stopped for the safety of the public.

although i'm not sure most people still consider it a rumor nowadays.

This is an easy one. Finally decided to buy a Desert Eagle and find a nice .44 at a local gunstore. I'm looking it over and the salesclerk starts explaining how the DE was actually designed in Israel as... a hand-held anti-tank weapon. Yep, it was designed so that Israeli soldiers could take out tanks (with special ammuntition of course).

I'm looking at the guy and then I realize-he's serious! I just go "oh, really" while trying really hard not to laugh.

My homicide lecturer (professor?) said shotguns spread out and kill everyone in the room (must be that UC--unimproved cylinder choke) and that the SKS was a, quote, "big-??? assault rifle".

I still hear, "The .44 Magnum is the most powerful handgun in the world."

I just heard an officer say it again on a rerun of a COPS episode.

Mine that I've heard... hmm....

... that there is ONE Ultimate shotgun!

Assault rifles are designed to be fired from the hip, without aiming, and are much more powerful than hunting rifles.

"Black Talons were outlawed because they'd go through a cop's vest."

"Machineguns are illegal to own."

"That SIG P-220 is so accurate, they did a test in a magazine where they shot it at a razor blade with two matches behind it, and the bullet hit the razor blade dead on, split in half, and lit both matches."

I heard all this yesterday. I'll let you know what good ones I hear today.

Skunkabilly, perhaps it was a very small room. Sounds like your prof lives in a Lewis Caroll fantasy. Tell him to lay off the LSD.

:scrutiny:

People believe this crap?! I guess that's not that much of a stretch when you think about the fact that people believe Diane Feinstein and the Brady Bunch.

I'd have to think that at least sometimes when people say that they are just quoting Dirty Harry for fun. Sometimes I still say that when people mention .44 mags even though I know it's not true. Although when I say it it's pretty obvious I'm quoting the movie by my bad, squinty Clint Eastwood impression.

"Plastic-frame guns will pass through metal detectors un-detected"

Kind of like that x-ray proof Glock thingy

"The assault weapon fired fom the hip, etc"

My experience with hip-shooting has been I couldn't hit the ground with my hat. And the 7.62x39 is NOT more powerful than say a .30-06...about even with the .30/30, though.

"The .44Mag in the most powerful handgun in the world"

At the time of its introduction, yes. But not now.

Now I have seen a really good "alley-cleaner" shotgun, though. Another Deputy I was working with back then took a SxS 12 GA (dog-ear hammer type) from a guy. Barrels had been chopped to where they were only slightly longer than the ammo...probably about 5" long, as I recall.

Oh that's definitely possible. You just have to move the targets close enough to the gun. :D

Yeah, I heard that one too. I think they set up that shot in Strassbourg at the same range where they shot all those goats, and the SIG had special custiom straight rifling so the bullet had no spin to interfere with the cutting process of the special diamond razor blade they used.

I love the one published in a Local Ut Paper not to long ago...........Glocks have plastic barrels that make the bullets fired from the gun.....untraceable.

Bloody incredible.................................

Shoot well...................

Thanks alot:cuss::barf:

Congratulations, Diane; you've just broken 3 rules of firearms handling!...
now, see that curvy little metal thing...below the bigger black metal thing....
you can break the 4th rule by pulling the hinged thingie...PLEASE!

That .25, .32 and .380 rounds will fall off a Levi jacket at close range. I've also heard the story about the very large man "up north"who was shot in the forehead with a .380 at close range and the bullet bounced off.
