Buy an genuine CZ if you want the CZ EXPERIENCE, nothing comes
close, but the Witness offers more calibers and variations.
Other than the 10mm Witness, i'll opt for a Cee-Zed
Some people say the workmanship is better on the Tanfoglios.
CZs are Military Grade guns, unless you get into Match Guns.
The witness' are sporting/defense orientated and not military grade.
Unlike the thousands of CZ armed officers and soldiers..i don't know
of one single military or police force that uses Tanfoglio pistols.

Witness slide stops and safetys will work on a CZ. I also believe
the triggers will work.

CZF covered alot of it. Basically you have a name brand and a clone thats 90% there. The EAA guns are a little more spotty in there function and performance....let alone the Customer Service, or lack there of. They do offer cooler finishes...Wunderfinish is very tough. More options....Id pay dearly for a 10mm compact CZ...hell its taken them a LONG time to get the 40 out thats gonna be out soon.
CZ's are seriously great guns....and those who have had a witness that ran LIKE IT SHOULD will attest to that also. Ive seen a couple that were bad guns.....I brought in a 10mm compact w/finish that had a barrel that was badly pitted on the BORE. That turned me off big time......................
I may look at another but it will be a while........

I've owned both, and the CZ is obviously better made, though the Witness isn't bad by any stretch.
The one Witness I'd consider over a CZ is the 10mm, since CZ doesn't make a 10mm gun. BIG gun, but reliable and very soft-shooting, probably because it is a big honkin' steel gun with good ergonomics. With a better trigger and nicer finish it would be a flat-out awesome piece.

I was sort of leaning in the Witness direction because of the Wunderfinish. I hadn't really heard many complaints about the Witness at all.
Should have picked up one of the surplus CZ 75B's they had in Prescott a while back, they were like $319... guess I learned my lesson, again.

The Witness large frame .45/10mm is smaller than the CZ97B, and not
much bigger than a standard 75B.
I love the 10mm cartridge and having 11 shots, plus a rapid reload of
20 more. The 175 gr Silvertip puts out 649 fpe. Not a .44 magnum level,
but not near the recoil and faster recovery.
As an outdoors gun it has been thru handgun hell and it works everytime.
The wonderfinish has held up well. If i pound the gun to death with hot
10mm loads, i'll buy another one.
The steel frame and wonderous CZ75 design, combined with the
excellent finish, make one tough gun.
I tend to baby my CZs, so the poor Witness gets all the punishment
much bigger than a standard 75B.

Buy a CZ, it's more than a great gun it's a sign of taste and intelligence. Too bad witness mags don't work in czs.
You will not be sorry. There is one thing I regret about mine. It's that I only have one.
Now If I could just get my 75b to breed with my S&W 686 I could be the next J. M. Browning.

Believe me stay away from the EAA Witness. Buy the CZ75.
I have the EAA 10mm target model in wonder finish and like it, the only EAA's I would consider over the CZ is the 10mm because CZ doesn't make it and the 45acp if price is an issue. You can get the 45 with the 22 kit combo for much less than the CZ 45 (97) alone!
The wonder finish is great and I like the color I also like the fact that the EAA is simpler and the strut and main spring is hidden in the frame as not to collect dirt. Bren

not really a tug of war. most of those that recommended EAA here only do so for the 10mm because cz ain't got one.
and especially when you consider it ain't just us, there are a gagillion cz's in service protecting lives everyday and just a handful of witnesses.
and also realize that the witness is a COPY of a CZ. EAA's can be damned fine guns but I doubt you'll find very many cz owners that would consider a trade. And there ain't that much of a price difference to justify getting a copy unless you want to get one in the hard to find 10mm.

There's also a lot of Witnesses, or their siblings: Magnum Research Baby Eagles, a bunch of Israeli-made Tanfoglio clones with different names, many Tanfoglios under their own brand, guns made in Sweden on the CZ or Tanfogflio model, etc., etc.
Which has the most in use/circulation? Darned if I know.
I have several CZs, and think highly of them. I also have a Witness Sport Long Slide in .45 (one of their pricier models) that I preferred to my CZ-97B, which I traded away.
There are a lot of Witnesses being shot in IPSC -- a Witness Race Gun can be a very nice gun. Not many CZs. Lot easier to get upgrades for the Witnesses.
Generally speaking, I prefer CZs, but there are VERY NICE Witness and Tanfoglio clones floating around. Customer Service is a problem with the Witness guns, and even more of a problem with some of the other Tanfoglios.
If you can examine and handle the gun before buying, and the trigger seems pretty good, don't automatically discount a Witness as junk. Some of them aren't.

That's about the same thing I say about my Charles Daly 1911... and I paid more for it than my HK USP40
Maybe once I handle a Wunder Finish Tanfoglio, I can decide. Hopefully the gun show in September will have some different selection.

Tanfoglio Wonder Finish...
I've seen a number of Tan Witness pistols with the Wonder finish. The execution of the finish hasn't always been the same(or even similar in some instances), seeing as examples I've actually examined have varied in color and surface texture a bit.
Basically and grey/silver Tenifer type finish. I've seen everything from a fine smooth and even almost hard chrome type effect, to a flatish grey slighty textured finish. Some have had what appears to be a "ripple"(no, I wasn't drinking anything of the same name) or stripe through the finish to variations of coloration in the finish on the same component(slide, frame, etc.).
As mentioned before, it holds up well to abuse and when executed properly, looks very good. Its getting an example that is executed properly that's the challenge...
