I've been looking at the EAA Witness open guns (MSRP $2000 or so). I had a chance to fondle one at SHOT, and I know they are pretty dominant in Europe for IPSC, but other than that, I know nothing about them.

I think the actual model name is "Witness Elite Gold Team"

Any one have any experience with them? Are they ok for 9 major?

Are the open eaa/cz guns used in europe custom built, or are they factory guns?

Are they accurized at all, or are they just dolled up service pistols?

TIA

Go over to brian enoss eaa forums. Most of the guys there shoot competitively and can help way more with answers. Also henningshootsguns.com is a factory shooter and builds some acc. and sell's idems for compitition. Very accurate pistols in just the elit match guns and only get better with the higher end guns. The match is a service grade. The rest are tuned up

I have never seen a cz tactical sport but at 1250 retail for a pistol that is basicly like the match elit that retails for close to half the price there is a very big diffence in price for 3/4" of barrel. I don't think cz sells retail anything that will match what witness sells in there upper end line but again ask over at Brian Enoss forums or maybe even at CZ forums. They have a "copy " section and some of the shooters have both.

I owned one in 45, it was ok but not as accurate as the 38 Super comp gun I built myself for less money and the recoil was more than I cared for in an Action Pistol gun. I really think you would be better off spending another $500 and buying a comped STI 2011.

Is Hennings still in business? I recently picked up a Stock 2 in 10mm and am looking for mags. I looked at the site while researching and by the looks of things, the last update was in '07.

Sorry, been a lurker for years. Finally reg'ed for the search function :)

Don't know about the higher end guns by EAA, but I have a standard Witness model and it is a well made gun, and a good shooter.

They are fancy CZs more or less. Very few things of American design are the best in the world. However, the 1911 platform for competiton shooting sports is second to none. Money better spent IMHO.

Owen - if you are serious about running one, give Bruce Gray a call www.GrayGuns.com.

Bruce was one of the smiths who were building them to shoot 9 Major back in the day...tell him I referred you; he'll laugh. He has great stories about blowing up a number of guns and even converted a MAB 15 at one time. He was the guy who built, and competed with the longslide/compensated H&K P7M13. He was a factory shooter for H&K and SigSauer

He's looking at running an Armalite AR-24 this year in USPSA Production and should be able to give you some real life experiences to base a decision on. He's in AL teaching this weekend, but should be back in the shop by Tuesday
