Early Hogue monogrip

I just bought an early nylon j frame round monogrip at a collectors group I belong to. It had a stirrup for a newer rubber monogrip that attaches to the grip pin, however the early grips require you to remove the grip pin from the frame for clearance. Sent called and sent a letter to Hogue. They were nice enough to ship out a metal stirrup. No dice. The whole stirrup is wider then the inner walls of the grip. Early instructions show a stirrup that is plastic and has two "barbs" that allow attachment to the frame. Any ideas before I just through everything in the trash? Joe
