EBR?

I know what it means. I wonder about the etymology. Can anybody shed some light on how the term came into use and is now applied to such a wide range of semi-automatic military clones? Is this a euphemism for the grossly misapplied "assault rifle" monicker?

As the others have mentioned, when not used in conjunction with a modernized M14, it's a tongue in check term that is mostly ment to mock those who think "assault weapons" should be banned.

Yup. It simply is a mocking jab at the antis, sort of how "Yankee Doodle" was co-opted by the Americans and changed from a term of derision to a badge of pride.

I don't think there ever was a gun-grabber type who actually used the term purposefully. We sort of made it up ourselves just to ridicule their fear.

Yeah I was thinking Enhanced Battle Rifle in the other thread, although the same features apply to an EBR (pistol grip, synthetic stock, rail system). An SKS with such features would probably run less than a cheap AR-15 in stock configuration.

this should probably be picked up in the thread specific to the topic however my SKS will come in under $400 during time of high prices and low availability while the cheapest of the Cheap AKs and Mini 14s are now $800 under normal conditions and AR15s are $600 under normal conditions.
