I inherited from my brothers estate. This pistol is in very good shape. It has been shot before but don't know how much. My problem is, I'm having difficulty removing the wedge from the frame to allow me to remove the cylinder for inspection and cleaning. Any trick to doing this or do I just bang it out with a brass punch? Secondly, what powder do I use, how much and where is the best place to buy it. I also need lead .36 cal ball ammo, paper wads and percussion primers. Any manuals available to lead me through all this? I own and fire many different firearms from rifles, shotguns and pistols, but I am a rookie with black powder.

First and foremost go the the Black Powder Essentials thread and read as many of the listed titles that you can. They will answer just about any question you may have.

In the mean time, I offer the following:

Removing wedge - plastic or lead/brass faced hammer brass punch. Make sure revolver is well supported and area under wedge is open enough for the wedge to fall out. A couple pieces of 1x2 works.

Powder. Any fffg real BP (1st choice), or fffg APP, ffg 777 (2nd Choice), or (ugh!) Pyrodex (last resort IMNSHO). It really depends on what you can get locally. You can get real BP mail order; but it is only cost effective to order 10 lbs or more. I don't recommend it for someone starting out. Since this is a brass framed revolver, DO NOT USE A POWDER CHARGE GREATER THAN 20 grains. Heavier charges will damage the gun over time.

Roundballs. Your local gun store should have Hornady swaged roundballs. .375 diameter are the correct ones for your pistol. There are many suppliers that sell cast roundballs, I get mine from The Log Cabin Sport Shop.

Wads. Some use wads, some don't and grease over the ball. I use wonder wads from Sage Outfitters. They are dry lubed and will not contaminate the powder

Caps: Remington # 10s are the best all round percussion cap (IMNSHO). #10 CCIs are too small to fit most nipples. There is a comparison chart of caps under the BP Essentials heading

Best advice I can give is to Read the threads under the Black Powder Essentials heading!

Sure would be nice to see some photos of your pistol (to include date code, proof marks, importer marks, et al).

A bunch of us here thrive on that kind of info. We don't see many EIG guns here.

Looking forward to it if possible.
