My favorite rifle I currently own is a Stevens Model 325-A named "Cathy" I don't name my guns. Got it from an elderly gentleman at a gun show about 6 or 7 years ago for $160 after I talked him down from $200 on account of part of the butt plate being cracked off. Somehow I looked at it, thought about it, and negotiated without ever noticing the name stamped into the stock until my Dad pointed it out after I'd went to his place to show him this strange bolt action chambered in .30-30. It's the only bolt action either of us have ever seen in this caliber. It is also the most comfortable easy to use and just down right accurate (within 100 yards) rifle I've ever used.once A friend who had little to no experience shooting put three shots in a silver dollar sized group right on the bullseye with good ol Cathy View attachment 1045573 View attachment 1045575 View attachment 1045577
I have the savage version of your Cathy, the savage 340 also in 30-30. I’m choosing it as my favorite rifle based on how much I shoot it compared to the others. I cast for it so I can shoot it a lot without breaking the bank. Found mine in a pawn shop about 2 years ago for $250. Cleaned up the stock and put a Williams peep sight on it. Still on the hunt for another one in any of the .22 cats .222,.223 and .22hornet.

Really like my old REM 700 Mt Rifle. It’s in 270 Winchester, and I like that round just fine. It was also available in 30-06, which I also like. It’s my hunting rifle, and it’s helped me to kill literal truck loads of whitetail.

AR’s are fun. I do enjoy shooting 5.56/223 for plinking, and for a general purpose (coyotes, hogs, etc) rifle around the property. Toss in the side by side and go. No worries about mud, dirt, or getting beat up. Everyone needs a good beater.

Hmmm… man it’s tough trying to pick just one. Every rifle I own has a purpose for being in the collection so it’s tough to single one out.

Since I honestly can’t neck it down to one without having reservations I’m leaving something out, I will say I love shooting the 10/22 International .22 LR, the CZ550 6.5x55, the Ruger PC9 9mm and the Rossi 92 .45 Colt most of all.

Stay safe.

They are a lot of fun aren't they? it was the Stevens 325 for a couple years then the Savage 340 then the Springfield 840. Only Stevens and Savage come in 30-30. A limited number of the Springfields were made in .225 Winchester that's the one I really want. The Stevens 322 is the 22 hornet version of mine.

Winchester model 70 featherweight . I've got 3 of them , but my favorite is a 6.5 x 55 . had it over 20 years , taken a lot of deer , antelope ,coyotes , and a couple or few elk cows . Always say it kicks like a .243 and hits like a .270 .

Very tough call, but here are two of my favorite rifles and calibers...

First would be me Remington Model 700 in 6mm Remington with a 2x7 Leupold. I used this rifle on a ranch to take care of daily business as well as hunt. The 6mm was perfect for the ranch. I could shoot it all day and never flinch because of the mild recoil but it was more than powerful for the deer, pigs, and varmints we shot. I learned this rifle like no other because we shot so much. It became automatic to sight a target, aim, and fire. In all my life I don't think I was ever better with a rifle than during this time. Sorry no pics of rifle, the wife has them on a hosting site, but here is a typical morning on the ranch: a nice buck and a coyote and a much younger version of me.

The next rifle would probably be my Winchester Model 70 in 30/06. I bought this rifle in 1994 when Winchester reintroduced the controlled feed action. I traded in my old Winchester Model 70 XTR which was a good rifle as well and never looked back. I have a 3.5x10 Leupold on this rifle. It has taken all of my California deer and pigs. It shoots great, balance nicely for me and hits hard. The only thing I added was an HS Precision stock and slightly adjusted the trigger.

Here is one of my high country mule deer:

I could go on and on about my the other rifles I love. I guess I think of rifles like golf clubs. You could play a whole game with just a 9 iron but what fun would that be? I like to have a specific rifle for a specific task....and don't even get me going on my lever actions.

I really want to answer this, but I can't.

Ditto.

This one has bugged me for a few days. Maybe it’s because I tend to build what I want for a given application - and I can always manipulate the application to dictate a different “ideal” result. My favorite applications change with the tides, such my favorite Firearm and cartridge for each also changes…

I suppose my favorite cartridge tends to be the 22LR, because in every application for which I employ the 22LR, I find immense pleasure. Correspondingly then, if I decide which Firearm I enjoy shooting the most for the application I have universally enjoyed the most, it’s a specialty pistol in 22LR - the Ruger 10/22 Charger. My boy and I do a lot of things together, but shooting these, I might enjoy the most.

This thread is still causing me some mental angst about which cartridges do I really like and which ones I just find particularly useful for a certain purpose.

I didn't want to create a bunch of anxiety with this thread. It is in the rifle forum. So start there rifle cartridges :D

My rifle is Weatherby 7mag cartridge is 300 wsm.

I also like the 308 win and recommend it to anyone who wants a North American cartridge. For woods hard to beat the 30-30 & 45-70. 243 for coyotes.

Its just for fun

My favorites tend to have stories that come along with them. I inherited a marlin 30-30 from my dad. He bought it when I was born as gift to himself. He took a lot of deer with it. I’ve taken many more with it in the 14 yrs since.

Cartridge, accuracy and comfort level I’d go with the savage 110 (wood stock) in 30-06 I purchased.

Most fun shooting is the Winchester 94ae in .45 colt.

One of my favorites due to the story (saved from the trash by my neighbor, stored in his garage for 20 years, then handed to me, for free, because “I like guns”) was an all matching 1918 Enfield.

* edit to add: this thread made me wonder… what rifles/cartridges are your least favorite but you’d never get rid of. Maybe another thread.

For me it’s a pre-64 Winchester model 88 in .243. I’ve taken a lot of deer with it but man the lever action is not smooth, you have to cycle it with force and at the right angle.
