Is your favorite rifle chambered in your favorite cartridge?
Or are they different??

Like many of you, I have owned several different rifles chambered in many different cartridges. I have favorites for different types of terrain, but one all around favorite.

My favorite rifle is a Weatherby MarkV ultra lightweight in 7mm Rem Mag. My favorite cartridge is the 300 WSM.

Not that the 7mm Rem Mag can't do what the 300 wsm can. I like the efficiency of the 300 with a little more energy than the 7rm, but very similar recoil.

Favorite is tough, by last count I have 28 rifles, all were bought with a specific task/purpose in mind, which has of course changed over the years.

So favorite, really hinges on favorite for what?

The one I shoot the most is a little Rem M7 in .223 that I dropped in an HS Precision stock, mounted a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10x40 with CDS and added a Timney trigger. It's my walking varmint rifle and my practice big game rifle. With my range out back it's what I grab the most to plink on steel or when taking the dogs for a walk in case a muskrat or coyote appears. It by accident mirrors a similar M700 in .300WM and of course 2 other M7s. With reloads it's sub MOA, cheap on the wallet and easy on the shoulder, long sessions are enjoyable.

Right now my love is torn between to 30 caliber cartridges.

30 Remington AR (second from left, 450 Busmaster, 30 Remington AR, 3oo AAC Blackout, 5.56x45mm) for near 308 performance in a AR-15 size page and that fact it went from SAAMI approval to obsolete in probably the shortest time of any modern cartridge!

Hard to pin down one single favorite.
The most fun gun I have to shoot has to be my Chiappa 1892 Alaskan, in .44 mag. Got a red dot on it, and a light. Being a levergun, it's so fast, and being a takedown, it stows away nice.
My Remington 700 in .243 is easily the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. Feels good to shoot tiny little groups. Real good.
My Ruger 77/22 is also a great deal of fun. (as are all .22LR guns) Cheap ammo, zero recoil, accurate... and if the world goes to **** tomorrow, I have more .22LR ammo than any other caliber. I also had it threaded for a can, so hollywood quiet if running subsonic ammo. (same could be said of my 77/357 though)

If I had to pick one though, I'll have to go with one of an AR in 5.56.
Nothing special about them. They aren't exactly heirloom quality weapons... just tools, but after lugging one around for 28 years in uniform, that platform is just so second nature to me, nothing feels more right in my hands.
Highly customizable, low recoil, fast shooting, accurate, light weight, tons of aftermarket support, easy ammo availability...

can't say a favorite, depends on what I'm doing as to which is my favorite in rifle or cartridge.
Yeppers, my favorite big game rifle is the one I had custom built by Montana Rifle Company when I retired. I don't know if it even has a model name or number, but it looks like a "beefed up" Model 70, and it's chambered for my favorite big game cartridge - the .308 Norma Magnum of course.
On the other hand, my favorite small game (as well as ground squirrels, jack rabbits and assorted pests) rifle is a Kimber bolt, and it's chambered for the .22LR - my favorite "small game, as well as ground squirrels, jack rabbits and assorted pests" cartridge.
On the other, other hand, I still have my first "real gun" - the "22" (a Model 55 Winchester) my mom and dad gave me for my 10th birthday over 63 years ago. So it's pretty hard for me to not think of that as my favorite rifle and cartridge of all time.;)

My favorite cartridge is the 30-06. It's enough gun for anything, and not too much gun for everything but the smallest critters. I have a beautiful Mauser sporter that is a pleasure to shoot and look at, a Tikka t3, and a 1917 sporter all in 30-06.

But my favorite rifle is my cz 527m in 7.62x39. it's the bottom gun in my avatar, it's just amazing in the hands. I love the sights, and with some creative handloading it covers rabbits to deer size game easily. I love it.

if you go by what I shoot most it would be my 10/22 in 22lr, or my ruger PCC in 9mm. shoot steel challenge 2 to 4 times a month all summer. big game would be 270 in my bar. varmint would be my ar in 223.

I like the efficiency of the 300 with a little more energy than the 7rm, but very similar recoil.

I had a 300 WSM for a few years and really like the concept. Most people don't understand the purpose or how much potential all of the WSM cartridges have. It'll give 98% of the muzzle velocity of a 300 WM, with 15-20% less recoil, better accuracy, and in a more compact rifle.

I sold mine simply because I don't need that much power, but if I ever felt the need for anything with "Magnum" on the headstamp it would be another WSM. I actually think the 7mm WSM was probably the best one. But alas it was the last to be introduced and never really caught on. The 300WSM was the only one somewhat successful.

I have a lot of respect for the new 6.5CM. It lives up to the hype and does anything my 308 will do. But 308 is still my favorite cartridge, and this Winchester 70 EW in a McMillan stock is the favorite rifle.
