Encore Scope Mount Issues

After buying a .204 Ruger barrel for my Pro Hunter I fretted for months over what scope to mount. Now, I'm an admitted scope snob, usually leaning towards Zeiss, Leupold Vari-X III, high-end Nikon's and even the occassional Swarovski. But, for this rifle I decided to try a low-priced scope in the Millett Buck Gold 6-25 x 56 Side Focus "Varmit Target Special" variety, as I ran across a pretty sweet deal on it.

I mounted this scope using a T/C Maxima No. 7429 steel scope base and Millett Angle-Loc weaver-style rings.

My problem arises in that the eye-relief (theoretically 3.3 inches average) is such that I cannot get the scope far enough forward to suit me. I'm a fairly big guy at 6'4". To my way of thinking I've only got two options if I want to use this scope on this gun: 1) buy a different weaver rail that cantilevers further forward on the barrel thereby allowing me to re-position the rings/scope, or 2) lengthen the pull of the stock with some kind of extension or recoil pad.

When I compare the position of the scope mounting holes to the trigger position it seems that the mount is substantially further rearward than on other rifles.

Questions:
1) Do any of you find the position of the mounting holes to be equally frustrating?

2) Have any of you found the length of pull to be somewhat short on this rifle? And if so, what did you do to relieve this condition?

Thanks for you replies.

I have a T/C G2 Contender rifle in 375JDJ and an Encore Hunter in 308 and the mounts and scopes are just fine on my rifles....

Did you ever come up with a solution? I have the same frustration and want a longer rail.

Actually, I've been so busy with other issues that I had to put that project aside for awhile. I have yet to even fire the .204 Ruger barrel. I still need to resurrect it and find a solution.

I'd be most interested in anything you can suggest. I'll likewise try to keep you posted on my solution (when and if...)

This is not an uncommon problem. I believe that the Leupold Weaver-style base has a few more rear slots cut in it, allowing you to move the rear ring forward in case it's a rear ring issue. I solved this by using Millet offset Angle-Loc rings.
