i never feel too bad about carrying ball ammo. it's the guy on the receiving end that feels too bad.

I would not necessarily want to carry ball ammo but if I needed to I would. I'm sure either has the chance to stop someone, but you never know. Best bet is to make you placement count, whether that be a JHP or FMJ.

I actually have a pic of the deer with the hole in it's neck somewhere. It was shot through the neck (I think I mentioned that before?) through the spine.

Funny, all the tests I've seen shows the 9mm ball tumbling more often than not.

The 9mm Luger FMJ has a reputation as an outstanding penetrator, better than 45 ACP FMJ. On top of that, according to (brace yourself) Ed Sanow the 9mm Luger FMJ always tumbles 180 degrees in gelatin, due to the shape of the bullet. So...if I were stuck with FMJ I would be just as comfortable with the 9mm as the 45 ACP. The 45 generates a marginally wider hole while the 9mm ensures better penetration and is more likely to tumble.

I'm waiting for someone to post a pic of a 9mm FMJ exiting out the same hole it came in.

Most all bullets will yaw in soft tissue. The only thing is how many inches before it begins to yaw? The typical AK steel bullet won't start to yaw until something like 20+ inches. A Yugo M67 AK round is is slightly shorter than the Russian steel round but will start to yaw after about 3-3.5 inches. The early yawing does quite a bit more damage than the ones that yaw latter on.
