Howdy All! Please forgive me if there's already a thread like this on here, I just joined the other day. I'm kind of curious; out of all the gun owners and CCW'ers on here, how many of us have actually been shot at? I was always interested in firearms, but it was one incident in 2004 that finally got me to drop the $500 and become a gun owner.
I was working as an EMT in Richmond, VA back then. About 2hrs into the shift we got called over to an apartment complex for an asthma patient. Kind of a run of the mill call, not really expecting trouble. We got the lady stabilized after a couple breathing treatments and convinced her to go to the ER. Once we get her into the ambulance, this random dude comes around the corner of the apartment building and unloads 3 shots at us with a .38 snubbie. I just stood there for a second with a dumb look on my face. The my partner was like "Holy s**t, he just shot at us!" Then the shooter just took of running back around the side of the building. At that point, we hightailed it out of there and radioed for LEO. We checked the rig over at the hospital and didn't see any holes. Like many "urban dwellers", this tool couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. The thing that I really took personally about the whole thing wasn't getting shot at. It was the fact that our patient started panicking and having another attack after we had already gotten her feeling better. Messing with me is one thing. Messing with someone whose care I'm responsible for really gets me ticked. Fortunately, she did get better over at the ER and the situation ended without any injuries. The cops never did find the guy though. A couple days later, I went and bought a used Glock 17, started shooting, and haven't looked back since
