I gave 4 Anshutz rifles to my shooting club in CA for their youth shooting program. The program has turned out 6 Olympic competitors so far.

I'll be giving my buddy's soon to be 18 yld step daughter a walther p22 for her 18th birthday/highschool graduation. I am going to buy or have made an oak or cherry wood box made and have 2 brass plaques made for the box. one to go on the outside one to go on the inside. the out side one will read "If you fear his strength or size" and the inside one will read "Call on me and I shall equalize" i'm going to put the pistol in the box and give it to her.
Found the loaded gun on my doorstep the next day

dude what are running? a home for wayward firearms???

I see a lot of Mosin Nagant M44 gifts and such... which makes me wonder.

Can you give arms purchased under a C&R license? No, i'm not thinking "Wow, I can buy 10 SKSs and just give them all away" at all.

Can you sell it, at cost or at a loss, if you just don't like the stinking gun?

Giga - You can dispose of them as you see fit, as long as it is done with an aim to improve your collection. (You still need to properly log them out of your bound book to the recipients) Getting rid of a gun you don't like to make room for one you do like - as long as you don't go overboard, that sounds fine to me.

Give-aways... lets see...

I got a Nylon66 from an Uncle/Cousin/something when I was way small.

I was involved in the giveaway of a gun to someone just ocming up into the shooting world.

I also organized a "Baby's First Gun" gift for a friend...

I'm sure that there will be others in the future.

Twice.

Once was to a friend who helped me move a safe.

Another time was to a lady friend who needed a gun for her safety.

Edited to add Thrice. Before a friend got married and at the dinner before the wedding, I gave him a flintlock rifle I made for him. Mind you, I gave it to him before the wedding so it wouldn't be community property if the marriage turned sour.

I have a great nieghbor that I've known now for 9 years. She is 64, and often really struggles to make ends meet. I took her hunting last year, she hadn't been hunting in over 20 years, . And having practiced with one of my rifles for a couple months before the season, she did a head shot on an antelope at 200yds. Total excitement and feeling great about putting meat on her own table, she said, "I'm gonna save every penny and get me a rifle for next season." It just grabbed my heart, and so I replied- "you don't have to, if you like this one, its yours." She just didn't know what to say, and finally replied sceptically- why would you give this away? I said, because you need it, and I got my other favorites....sometimes its just the right thing to do.

I gave a friend of mine a No. 4 Enfield. He has other guns, (standard good'ole boy arms) but he wanted a "military" type rifle. He could not afford to get one himself at the time (2 kids and a wife, single income) so I let one of mine go.

Made me feel good.

I hope to be well enough off to give nice guns as gifts in the future.

A high school friend and his wife parted ways, he took his Win. 1400 with him, leaving her without. When they divorced, she kept all his friends, he had turned into a jerk. I had recently picked up an old Ithaca 37, and let her 'borrow it' open-endedly. When she remarried, I included the shotgun with her wedding presents, and introduced her new husband to shooting in the process!;) She was a former MP, and felt 'naked' without a gun around the house.:p

I've probably given away over a dozen Marlin/Glenfield Mod 60's, just bought 2 more from a pawn shop last week for 60 bucks. They usually don't take much work to refinish and get into good working order.

Gave my KelTec P32 to a young lady on her way to college, she used it to ask a young man to stop following her late one night.

Gave my old 30-30 to a friend's son and he managed to take his first deer with it. Doesn't really count as a give away tho' since he mowed my yard all summer. Wonder how I'm going to get it mowed this year? Wonder if he needs a shotgun?

I give guns to my wife and daughter all the time. Actually my wife takes them away from me. My daughter got a nice 270 winchester short mag Browning Synthetic Stalker with a Leupold 4x14 AO VarixIII for Christmas.

Yep...

I once gave a friend of my fathers (and me too, I guess!) an old Winchester Semi-Hammerless Model 37 single-shot 12 Ga... (in near-mint condition...)

Dad wanted to buy it to try to teach himself "home parkerizing" - (he MAY have been joking, I'm not sure...) and my friend wanted it to keep as a SWEET original gun... so I gave it to the friend...

I smile EVERY time I see it in his cun cabinet... (but I gotta go to Colorado to see it!)

Gave mom a Colt Cobra snubby once... gave sis a 20 GA and a .22, and gave dad more than a few...

Gave my 2 best friends EACH a custom built mauser too... (one in .284 Win, and one in .243 Win)

Edited to add that I also gave a sawed off (legal length) single shot "Bay State" 12 Ga. to a friend, when her hubby was called to "active" duty to fight over in Iraq...
