How many and what guns have you given away as gifts?

Gave as gifts:
Ruger 10/22 Carbine to first wife to learn shooting
Swedish 1896 Mauser to my CRFFL brother
Remington Model 5 to daughter to learn shooting
Ruger LCRx .327 to my wife

Gave non-firearms as gifts:
Makarov CO2 BB pistol to my shootin' buddy to have fun
"Winchester" .177 spring piston rifle to shootin' buddy to have fun
Gamo Recon .177 spring piston rifle to daughter to learn shooting (later handed down to shootin' buddy for his grandsons)

Three. A Glock 21, 19, and a Kahr CM9. All to my oldest son. Youngest didn’t get any. He lives in Hawaii.

Now, thinking back, after reading more responses, I remember as a teenager buying 2 of my brothers next in line, each a Marlin model 70 semi auto .22. I did this solely for the purpose of having someone to shoot with. I had a Model 60 at the time. There is still one of those 70's out in the shed somewhere, dad uses it for coon. The lone survivor don't work too good anymore, beaten to death and shot out, others long wore out and gone. We put millions of those craptacular Remington cheap Thunderbolts thru them, cuz farm boys couldn't afford the good CCI's.

Chipmunk 22 rifles to both my daughters
Glock 17’s to both my daughters

Remington Speedmaster .22 rifle to my nephew

Ruger 22/45 to my almost son-in-law. He failed to make parameters with my eldest and became a speed bump. Life happens.

15-20ish id guess.....most of the time i cant get out what ive put into projects(90% of my enjoyment is the project), and id rather give them to someone who appreciates them than sell them at a loss.

Merry Christmas friends.
I went out to our front room and peaked 😉 My stepson who is 11 years old will receive an Anschutz 1415/16 rifle tomorrow morning from Santa and the jolly old fat guy is also giving My 13 year old daughter a Smith and Wesson Pre model 17 in pretty good shape. It's amazing what those workshop elves can do.

I gave my dad a Springfield Saint, and a 9mm XDM match elite compact, and made him believe that new case hardened engraved 1911s from Standard Manufacturing only cost $800. He wanted a nice 1911 and asked me to get him one and said $800 was his budget, so that's what he paid. I subsidized the rest without him knowing. He loves it.

I gave my brother a Taurus Raging Bull 454 Casull for Christmas one year after he graduated high school and volunteered to help me redo my roof.

I gave one stepdaughter a heritage rough rider revolver 22lr for her birthday, and my other daughter also got a pink Savage Rascal 22lr rifle for hers.

I gave my wife one of my favorite pistols, my SIG P226 40 S&W, just because she liked that one. She now carries it everywhere. I bought 3 more after that, because I missed it and the deals were too good to pass up.

I've given a handful of guns away to friends. A Charter bulldog in 44 Special to a friend when he graduated the Police academy back in 1978. A .45-70 Handi Rifle, and a custom built LH flintlock. Also donated a T/C Hawken and a custom built .25-06 Mauser as a fundraiser for my neighbor's son who needed a heart transplant.

A few. Sold many on good deals to friends. I haven't kept track. I used to remember but a couple concussions later I don't.

A .38spl revolver to my BIL and a Pardner 12ga to my brother who I honestly had higher hopes for. Kind of regret that gift tbh. To me it's a big deal to give or get a gun as a gift, I was hoping that it would instill a sense of responsibility and acknowledgement for the young man, I've yet to be impressed.

The only conditions I put on guns given away is: That they not be turned into the police, destroyed, or used to hurt themselves or others (outside of legal self defense).
The new owners are welcome to trade them for other guns - once they shoot up all the ammo I gave them. None of them are family heirlooms or to be treated as such. I understand those conditions ultimately don't mean anything.

I told my sister that if she ever gets to the point of wanting to turn in a gun. That she should sell it to a gun shop or call me and I will come and pick it up.

I personally don't want conditions given to me on guns I buy or receive. For instance, I bought a Mosin-Nagant rifle and a couple other guns off a female friend of mine. She asked that she be notified 1st if I planned to sell the Nagant as it was her deceased husband's favorite rifle. What I should've done was told her that I will hold it for her for 6 months. Unless she contacts me and buys it back in that time period, I'm free to do with it as I please.

I was actually planning on flipping the Nagant immediately.

I don't mean any insult by this, but If I am buying anything from any real friend or family members, I won't buy it for a price that I could make any money on. My friends are worth more than a few hundred dollars in profit, and my family is worth as much or more. I don't know your situation or your relationship with this woman, even if I did I still wouldn't judge. Take care.

When I mean flip it, I meant trade it for something else. I gave her $500 for the Nagant, $900 for a Bushmaster AR15, and $350 for a S&W M10 revolver. She determined the prices. AR15's aren't worth what they used to be but she is a friend and I didn't mind helping her out.

Son in Law a Thompson Center Venture, friend a Beretta A300, Son a Ruger GSR, Remington 700 338 Win, Ruger 10/22, Nagant M53, and more. Cousin a 6.5 Mauser, Mannlicher in 270, and my brother in law. Winchester in 270, and a Browning 1892 in 44 mag. Just to name some. Its fun to give things away. Friend a Yugo SKS.

Over the years I have given my son a Henry youth .22 lever gun and a Wrangler revolver.

My good friend was given a Ruger LC9 for his 50th.

Another good friend was gifted a Uberti Cattleman .45 Colt when he moved to Idaho.

Decades ago I gave a friend my Ithaca M66 single shot .410 for his son.

My Dad a Glock 17 for a fishing belt-gun.

I think thats it. 🤔

Stay safe.

To my dad.
It was already his but spent years in a Florida storage unit without air conditioning and he was minutes away from throwing it into multiple dumpsters when he moved into his new place.
So the gift was the refinishing.
Didn't you do a thread on that refinishing project here on THR? If it was the one I'm remembering, it was a very cool thread.
