Hello,

My first handgun that my dad bought for me to use was a Phoenix arms HP22. I have had this gun for years at least 10. I would say there is 5-10 K rounds down the pipe. The recoil spring was changed 1000 rounds ago.

Anyways I decided it was time to take my mom to the range and teach her how to handle fire arms. My dad passed away this past October and I want her to have protection living on her own. I figured what better to learn on than my old 22. So I pulled it out of the safe lubed it up and off we went to the range. I started her out shooting 50 rounds from the HP22 while explaining the basics to her. She got this down rather quickly so we stepped up to my Glock 19. This was a little too much gun for her as she was not able to get her small hands around the grip well. She thought the recoil was to much because of this improper grip. So then I let her shoot my M&P 9c, she liked that much more, but kept trying to put her thumb behind the slide I caught her before she pulled the trigger each time.
Before we left I wanted her to shoot the .22 again and see how much easier it was now that she was used to shooting the larger caliber. She fired 5 rounds, then the gun would not fire, the hammer would drop and then nothing so I took the good unloaded it and looked it over to find this...

The slide was crack all the way through under the extractor... I was simply shocked. Not sure what caused this other than just the # of rounds down range. Needless to say, I am now down my .22 and on the prow for a new one maybe a buckmark this time.

Any Ideas on what caused this?

Shoot Safe,

Crushed up beer cans? LoL

No I was just shocked at the location of the break I would not thing there would be much stress at that point.

Lasted longer than I would have expected, most are broken long before that.
