My wife and I have 3 XD's. One 4"(9mm) and Two 3"(9mm and 40) compacts. She can shoot them all very well. It's her favorite pistol. And she has shot just about every make of pistol out there. But, ultimatley she has to pick the pistol that fits her hands the best.

I helped CZ name the P-01. They contacted me for my opinion on a name.. After getting mine, I found it to have soft recoil and superb accuracy. Others who have shot them also mention this.

Get her what she wants and shoots well - if that is a 9, then bless her heart.
My personal preference runs to 1911s, but I also have a .22 target pistol that I run as much ammo through as all of my other guns combined. As previously noted, the .22 is cheap to shoot and it is absolutely unforgiving in pointing out any problems a shooter has with the basics.
