How many folks knew that Hercules Powder Company was into in the insecticide business?View attachment 976531 So, who wouldn't want this charming 'upland' gal to be their Valentine? (from Hercules - 1915)
I shudder to see anyone firing what has to be a large caliber rifle while standing in a row boat. Even sitting would be an adventure.View attachment 968440 OK. So here is a real oldie from about 1900. What is wrong with this picture? Wouldn't you just love to see the next frame (if there was one)?
Those were called Punt Guns, Bird Cannons and other names.
In 1987, mortgage rates were 18%. I managed to lock in a 16% CD for my kids education, and wished I had a lot more to put in.No I don't remember. Interest rates on CDs at that time were probably 5% or so, I'm guessing. If you invested $1700 in a CD at 5%, interest would be over $85/year with compounding. If a Weatherby cost $400 at that time it would be about 5 years. Savings accounts were 4% or so. Those were the times when if you could put $1,000,000 in a savings account at 4% interest, you could spend $40,000 a year and never touch the principle. Life was good.

Those you showed from canardiere are more naval artillery. I think when you have a dedicated mount on your ship we are talking deck guns.. I think we are leaving punt guns way behind.![]()

As I recall, that was a crimp style & material instituted to keep the shell safe from moisture (but not waterproof) which used to ruin a lot of shotgun ammo. Can anyone explain what is meant by the “new Peters crimp”?

They are not from Canadiere as an organization but are canardière canon from MAS.

I'm fascinated that even back then - it would have been moral, ethical and legal to harvest fowl in that way.Oh Heavens Many many many many thanks for that you tube,,, That was beautiful. That is a gun.. 37mm, Took several people to move it.. and with a recoiled barrel to boot... Wow,, I want one bad. I am assuming (hoping) that like with all great range trips something was left at home. In this case it was the cleaning rod and this was a field improvisation..
"Hold my pinot-noir..."I thought the video to be some sort of Franco-redneck version of "watch this" go boom! Thinking that we rednecks were an indigenous species of the red dirt South and sun(burned) belt of the deep South, I am gratified to see that we have invaded Europe and all is well.
Keep the old advertisements and all coming, love them! Thanks everyone, such a nice thread.
