- Evolution of my Classic Turret

Bonsoir !!!

Thanks to the tools and especially thanks to the characteristics of the Hornady pusher I realized that the LCFCD had become optional for my reloading protocol.
So I only needed one station on my Classic and I thought that the single station presses were the most accurate in terms of L.H.T.
I transformed my good old Classic Turret and I present you my "Classic Breech " press ;)

It is in fact a Franken- Press ... a Hybrid: the body of the Classic Turret and the head of the Breech Lock Pro. :face:

For several months now, I have been reloading my ammo with the Breech Lock Pro but continue to use my Classic to crimp and afiner the LHT of my cartridges.
So, since I only use my Classic in Mono mode, I took the plunge and turned my turret into a real mono station.

On the Classic Turret, when pushing the ram, some parasitic play between the tool turret and the turret support is visible. The change of the upper part of the Classic Turret by the Tool Head of the Breech lock Pro eliminates this inconvenience.
This transformation is not definitive... You just have to replace the head of the press to come back to the original press. No transformation is necessary because everything coincides perfectly ... the screws are screwed without forcing and the axis of the tool in relation to the ram is perfectly centered.
I reloaded 200 cartridges of 9x19 and took the trouble to measure the LHT of about twenty cartridges randomly picked in the receiver...
result:
For a desired THL of 28.75mm
- 14 cartridges measured 28.75 mm
- 4 cartridges measured 28.76 mm
- 2 cartridges measured 28.74 mm
:) :) :) So conclusive tests :) :) :)

Even if with the Classic Turret in Mono mode I obtained excellent results ( +/- 0.03 compared to the desired LHT ), the results are better with my "Classic Breech ".

You’re claiming the original turret head had +/-0.03mm in variability while the solid top is yielding +/-0.01mm? Am I reading that right?

Are you comparing ogives on the bullets as well to know your cartridge length is not a result of variability in bullet noses?

And of course, are you experiencing any measurable difference on target?

Bonsoir,
Yes, these are the measures I took at the time... The measurements were taken with a caliper so I confirm the total length of the cartridges ... the variations in length can "perhaps" be explained by a slightly different profile of the warhead.

As for the result on target, for the humble shooter that I am, almost all the impacts of 9x19 are grouped in a circle of 30cm at 25m.

I finally received the head tool intended to style my Classic Turret, I take this opportunity to thank the Tecmagex team who included, at my request, this article in their catalog and also the customer service of LEE who, following a brief exchange of mail had graciously offered me the Tool Head leaving me to pay the shipping costs. The shipping costs being high, I declined LEE's offer to fall back on the one from Tecmagex which was ultimately more interesting for me.

My two presses being now equipped ...
... I present to you : " The Miss and the Hardeuse" and let you guess who is who.

The Miss and the Hardeuse : this is not a title of a work of art by Marc Dorcel but the qualifier found by a friend to designate these two presses :D.
So thank you friend  ... ( We'll see later for the copyright ;) )

La Hardeuse is really a diabolical precision ...

Following a good series of reloads (550mun of 9x19) I redid a measurement of LHT on a sample of 55 cartridges drawn randomly ...
For a desired LHT of 28.75 mm I had: 22 ammunitions at the exact dimension (28.75)
30 ammunitions at +/- 0.001 ( 28.74 to 28.76 )
3 ammunitions at + of 0.01 (1 at 28.77 and 2 at 28.78).

All the cartridges of the sample passed the test of the gun with success.

:D In short that of happiness 8)
