I am surprised that I don't hear more about these guns as they seem very competitive with the other popular pocket 9mm designs (LC9, Shield, Nano, etc.). Does anyone carry one of these and have some pros and cons to share? Thanks!

Don't carry one, but almost bought one. Trigger on the ones I've handled were long but smooth and consistent - like a well tuned revolver. It's light enough for carry but heavy enough to tame recoil. Double strike capability is a plus. The new extended base plate provides a good grip.

I went with something lighter due to back issues. I would hesitate to buy one otherwise.

I have an earlier pre-restrike. It went back to the factory early on but has been 100% since. The trigger is, as has been said, long and smooth. I have found that the key is to squeeze the trigger in one stroke not staging it. The weight does indeed tame the recoil to a great degree. The gun is smaller and more narrow than it appears. I find that pocket carry is just doable with cargo pants and a Nemesis pocket holster.

Accuracy is more than acceptable for self-defense. The extended eight round mag is excellent as a back-up mag. I don't miss the restrike feature as my practice is tap/rack. Also, the trigger is very easily reset by pulling back the slide a very small length, around 1/8 inch or less.

I think the gun is often overlooked because of early issues and the fact that SIG introduced a number of competing pistols at pretty much the same time.

I would add that there are two different floor plates for the six round mags. The more recent floor plate allows a more full grip while adding virtually zero length. When buying mags I would highly recommend these newer mags.

Sig p290rs....

I would buy a P290RS 9x19mm pistol. It's safe, DAK system & compact. :D
It hasn't seemed to have caught fire with US gun owners. The S&W Shield and S-A XDs sub compacts really get more notice.

One local gun shop has regular offers where a SIG Sauer 1911a1 .45acp or 9x19mm comes with a free NIB P290RS 9mm Extreme. ;)

The SIG P290RS 9mm seems like a "run to the store" type carry gun or maybe a second/spare pistol if you send your main gun out for custom work/repair or its being held in a storage locker(property room) during a lethal force investigation.

Prices in my metro area run about $299.00 for the P290RSs.

I carry one on a regular basis. I like it a lot, and they are very cheap now.

It is solid, small and very accurate for a small gun. Some say they are too heavy, but not me. I find that when I carry it in a front pocket, I forget that it is there.

The trigger is long and a little heavy, but easy to get used to. I compare it to my Ruger KLCR revolver, which has a great trigger. I think it is safer to carry with that feature. I like having the re-strike capability.

The extended mag is good and has a good grip.

Mine has the night sights, which are ok.

I think it is a good design, often overlooked. I have other guns as small, but prefer it.

I bought the P290RS as my summer carry gun. It has become my EDC.
I will say ditto to all of the above positive comments.
I have big hands and the the 290 fits well.

The only thing I do not like are the sandpaper grips.
I cut piece of bicycle inner-tube and put over the grip,
problem solved.

Recently got one and paid $340 with taxes and FFL fees. I have about 100 rounds thru it and I love it. I got it to occasionally pocket carry and it is doable in some pants. Would be an awesome belt gun. It shoots very well and recoil isn't bad at all. Trigger is smooth as butter. Mine has been 100 percent reliable. As noted it is a tad heavy for a gun that size but that lends to its shootability. Based on my experience I would recommend it. There seems to be plenty of holsters available and you can get a laser or night sights if you want. The SIG may replace my M&P 40c as a primary carry piece eventually.

I like mine enough that I bought a second. it has become my primary carry weapon when capacity is not a consideration. As stated, it can seem little heavy for pocket carry, but not enough to keep me from doing so.

As odd as it may sound, I get the feeling that the low price from a manufacturer such as Sig puts some people off, perhaps thinking the quality isn't there. And maybe the poor reputation of the P250 didn't help either.

I picked up a 290 two years ago and I'm very happy with it. Not a huge fan of DAO but my wife will carry it at times so it made sense. I think we have around 800 rounds through it and it's been 100% reliable so far. The accuracy is very impressive out to 15 yards for a pistol this size . I think it's my seventh Sig and all have been great pistols.

I just picked up a P290RS Extreme today. Besides the grip panels there are several other differences from other RS models. The Extreme only comes with one magazine and does not have night sights.

That's interesting, franco45, could you explain what the other differences are? Did you get yours from CDNN? Cheers, Matthew

I have a 290RS in 9mm, great gun, I myself like the long hard trigger pull on a CC firearm. It makes you have to think about what you are doing and aids in not shooting yourself or having a Negligent discharge. I have fired a string of 50 rounds thru it just the other day at 7 yards and was able to hold a 2" group. It seems to feed everything I have tried with no issues, although it does best with 124 grain ammo. With the 6 round mag it conceals well, I did not care for the 8 round mag, it just does not feel as good as the 6 round and does not conceal very well.

No Matthew I didn't get mine at CDNN. I got it at a gun show this weekend. Not having nightsights and only getting one magazine are the differences. Sorry if my previous post wasn't clear.
I bought an extra six round magazine and went to the range today. I am impressed with this little gun so far. I put 100 rounds of Fiochi fmj, 50 rounds of Freedom Ammo fmj and 25 rounds of Critical Defense downrange. There were no malfunctions and the gun is very accurate for it's size. The recoil was minimal and I didn't notice much muzzle flip. The trigger is long but smooth. I didn't mind it because I own several Kahrs and dao revolvers.
