Doctors practice medicine, and lawyers practice law.
We responsible firearm owners also practice correct basic fundamentals over and over and over again.
Why?
Right off the bat, all shooting is, or other things we do is, is simply doing the correct basic fundamentals over and over and over again.
We get smoother, faster, with time and repetition sure, when there is a problem, it always comes back to something(s) of the correct basic fundamentals we did not do , or do so correctly.
1. Anytime one announces they have "arrived" they have just broadcast to everyone they don't the first thing about the subject.
2. Skill sets are perishable.
3. Change is the only constant in life.
So people, places, things, circumstances, environments, and the like change. So what may have worked in another home/business/ daily travels, will have to be accessed , investigated and verified, when one is in in a new home, place of business, and traveling new areas.
i.e. kids are in the home, and grandparents in their 50's assist with baby sitting.
Kids grow up, and now the grandparents in their 70's and 80's,and they cannot do as they did 20, or 30 years ago.
Same house, same layout, same family, just change causes one to access and reevaluate strategy and tactics.
Where the 50-something grandparents used to do what they did with the baby, or kids, now these kids have a role in assisting the 70 and 80 something grandparents.
The parents have aged as well...
4. One is wise to listen and pay attention, even if the information does not apply to you.
It might some day, as change may dictate.
Or this information does fit the needs of someone else.
Even incorrect, or bad information is useful, as it allows one to think, and be aware some folks "really do" think this way.
This information may be useful.
i.e. "everyone not family, is the enemy" game plan of a neighbor:
So as a neighbor, hearing trouble next door, you would stop, and not go running near, as this is the strategy of that home.
A couple of more things, just my take, based on my experience and observations of living the years I have.
-Quality trainers and instructors, are constantly learning and learn from each other, and their students.
They themselves are not "experts" instead students themselves.
-There are Gurus that need students, and students in search of a guru.
Run far away from this circle jerk.
That piece of paper, from some "expert training" will get you hurt, maimed, or dead.
-Folks so want to be matriculated into a community, they parrot information to sound "good" or "in" or "part of the community".
- Internet, which allows faster communications, to more folks, globally, good information and bad information travels in them packets of ones and zeros.
-Where have all the Cowboys and Cowboys gone?
Quality instructors and trainers have been run off forums. Those that do post, do so rarely.
These folks are busy, time is valuable, and they have earned the right to get paid for passing forward.
They pay other quality instructors and trainers for their time.
Internet has taught these quality trainers and instructors- well Lee Lapin said it best:
Some folks don't want "it", some folks don't get "it" and some would not know "it", if "it" walked up and kicked them in the gonads.
So these quality instructors and trainers are on private fora, where one often times has to show credentials, or have someone vouch for them to be a member. Some even require one use their real name. Undercover cops and similar, are allowed to use an alias, as they have been checked, verified, shown creds, or vouched for - just their safety is respected and honored.
So if you wonder where some cowboys and cowgirls are, that is where they are.
One would be wise to be respectful and appreciative when of these persons shares with us, on public fora.
