I have a 1901 marlin 1897 lever action .22 I never use, it was my grandpas but I don't know if it was his grandpas or if it was one of his beater guns. I have been toying with the idea of trading it since I can't really put a monetary value on it. Anyway I've been offered a Springfield P9C 9mm pistol for it, I guess it's a CZ75 clone. I love my CZ82 would this gun be comparable? You think that's a fair trade? The marlin has some issues and is not really a shooter at this point in time.....

Thanks in advance boys!

I also cannot put monetary values on my heirloom guns. They may be worth nothing or a lot to someone else but in any case they are worth more to me than the dollar value.

$1000 these days is just a new set of tires for a car, that will be absolutely worthless (actually cost you money to get rid of them) when worn out and your grandson might just think it is priceless to have something handed down to him that belonged to his great grandfather.

Jmorris has it right. Buy all the guns you want. You'll never be able to buy your grandfather's gun. There's always the latest out there, and they'll make a bazillion.
I have my first 22, a old single shot Remington the first gun my Dad gave me. Seem similar under $200. I'd like to find a particular new gun, and it's a grand on the street. If I found one and the guy wanted to swap even up, I'd pass without a second thought.
A gun can be replaced. A memory cannot. You get to decide where the true value lies. Good luck.

Yeah your right, I think I'll keep it, it may grow on me, I don't really need another pistol, and with taxes coming I could just go buy anything really. Guess I had to ask to get slapped with a reality check, thanks.

There is no comparison..... KEEP THE GUN!... you won't ever have a chance to say "I wish I didn't do it" if you do.

No slap necessary, nor intended. Sometimes it takes an outside third party to lay out all the options.

If you ever do decide to sell, check with other family members first, so at least it's still within reach if you ever want it back.
