SAR-48?
Isn't that an Israeli HB? I did not realize SA made that version. All I have seen before is the all black ones. Or did you convert it?

That is COOL :D

Guess I will just have to play now...

...since I have one now. I don't have great pictures yet because I just bought it. To quote myself, "It has a Karl Kahles scope - HELIA S. The power is "2,2 - 9 X 42".
Finish is 100%. I know with absolute certainty it has less than 500 rounds through it. I am 90% sure it had less than 100 through it."

It is an original Belgian FAL and I am lucky to have had the opportunity to buy it, especially for what I paid. Although it is a little disconcerting that its place may be better in the safe than on the range. I can't wait to take it out for a run though. Sorry W.E.G, she ain't gonna see any concrete ;)

I used to be a member, had to sell her a year or so ago due to rising costs of ammo. Just too many calibers to feed.

Myrockfight,

How can you possibly get a good cheek weld as high as that scope is?

You can't.

Its a very "old-school" design, and much more valuable as a collector item than as a practical accessory.

Probably still shoots much smaller than minute-of-man groups at battle distances.
Which is what the designers had in mind.

Good question. I can't. It actually sucks. I believe the idea was to still be able to use the iron sites. But you can't use the iron sites anyway. I've got the original "receiver cover" (if that is what it is called). So I can take the scope off and put it back to normal. I don't know exactly what I want to do with it yet. We'll see. Any suggestions?

That is the way I bought it. My uncle, who originally owned it, set it up that way. I don't know if he was talked into it or it was his idea. He passed away a couple years ago, so I have no idea. He was a smart guy, but he didn't know that much about guns or shooting. But he always bought nice stuff! (Just didn't set it up right ) :)

Thats why I have got rid of everything that wasn't 7.62 or 5.56 :D

There are some really good looking rifles in this thread. Keep them coming! I'm about to purchase a scope from Kalinka optics for my FAL, so new pictures will be in order.

Heres my project. Waiting for a MagpulPRS-stock, except for that its about finnished.

Custom brake
Lothar Walther Stainless barrel, heavy.
TRG Bipod
Custom gas block, no cuts in the barrel, clamps on, with picatinney for iron-sights
Custom steel free float fore end
DSArms scope mount
Schmidt und bender PMII scope
Magpul stock, still waiting for that thing to get here!:banghead:

Need suggestions for a good pistol grip, its a L1A1 reciver.
Everything done at this rifle is reversible, if I should want to get it back to original condition.
The intention for this rifle is to be able hit a 40X40 centimeter target at 600 meters
(Its approx 17"by17") three times in 3 seconds....

No, its from a local smith here in Norway.
The tube is not cut at the top, its solid all the way.
Maybe a pic from earlier in the process will be of interest.

Nice looking FALs guys. I'm hoping to put together an Izzy-flavored LB to go with my STG58C. And a Para, and a L1A1, and a..... Who would have thought W.E.G. would start a thread on FALs? On a more serious note, what have your collective experiences been like with the thirty-round magazines?

Jag,

My 30 rounders are perfectly reliable. I bought two from DSArms and I'm pleased with them. Sure, you can't shoot from a bench with them, but so what? They are horribly fun to blast with. I've gone through each mag as fast as I can with no problems. So as far as reliability is concerned, mine have done just fine.

W.E.G.

So was it a factory design or aftermarket procedure? I had assumed that my uncle or the shop where he bought it set it up that way.

Thanks!

Man. You guys have some sweet looking FALs. Makes me want to change things a bit on mine. However, I do believe that is sacreligious. To even speak of it may be blasphemy.
