Famous people owned what guns?

I (almost literally) bumped into Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at the End of Trail SASS championships when they were held at Rahaagues (sp?) in Chino, Ca in the 1990’s.

He was the tallest cowboy I’ve ever seen, and was in full dress complete with SAA on his hip.

He wasn’t this decked out, but “Trinidad Slim” was done up right. :)

Stay safe.

Eleanor Roosevelt was given this 22 cal. S&W Outdoorsman 6" barrel w/adjustable sight in 1933 for her 49th birthday by her body guard NY state trooper Earl Miller. He taught her to shoot it. It was auctioned in 2020 for 1.4 million. IMG_1727 (2).JPG

George Patton (late Lieutenant General) had several. Most notably a Colt SAA with ivory grips and a S&W ".357 Magnum" (later known as the Model 27) also with ivory grips. He also had a number of smaller handguns, including a 1908 (.380ACP) Colt Pocket Pistol and a Colt Detective Special. Probably others.
Dolf "Jelly" Bryce started his career with a S&W .44 Special revolver (no further details known to me) and later switched to a 3.5 inch ".357 Magnum" in his later career.
Bill Jordan carried a S&W "Combat Magnum" (later known as Model 19), of course.
If I remember correctly the late 'Jeff' Cooper had a custom made large rifle for dangerous game. He seems to have had and carried several different variations of the Colt Government Model. Or so I've read.

Spielberg was on the cover of some upscale shooting mag (that is gone) many years ago with a sports shotgun. Rachel is a gun person and talks about taking a first date to the range. You can find her shooting an AR and 1911. Says she loves to shoot. However, she thinks guns should be kept at the range and checked out for sports usage.
Spielberg, like Selleck and Clapton owns Fabbri shotguns
https://www.shotgunlife.com/shotguns/art-of-the-gun/a-conversation-with-tullio-fabbri.html

His clients include director Steven Spielberg, actor Tom Selleck, rocker Eric Clapton and writer-director John Milus.

“A lot of very, very wealthy people in the public eye are Fabbri owners,” noted Mike Burnett, manager of Dewings Fly & Gun Shop in West Palm, Florida, the only authorized Fabbri dealer in the world.

That’s because Fabbri shotguns are recognized as the pinnacle of shotgun achievement. Fabbris are technically perfect, and with their stunning Renaissance and fantasy-style engravings are truly “functional artwork,” said Mr. Burnett.

Robert Stack was an exceptional skeet shooter but I do not remember what guns he preferred.

Dirty Harry sold a lot of model 29s for Smith and Wesson. I owned one myself for awhile but I can’t say the movie had anything to do with it. I did start shooting a flintlock after watching the Last of the Mohicans though:)

Dirty Harry is still selling Model 29's. I want one just as soon as I can find one for the right price.

I have owned a Browning A5 and Superposed, Winchester Models 12, 21, and 61, and a Colt Woodsman all because of Ernest Hemingway. I wanted an English style game gun because of Hemingway's W&C Scott pigeon gun so I got a Bernadelli game gun because it was more affordable.

I probably wont be able to ever get the Griffin and Howe Springfield Sporter or the Westley Richards .577 Nitro Express. Of course there are many others but these are the highlights of his guns. The only one I still have is the Bernadelli.

BTW, Hemingway used the W&C Scott to commit suicide.

Jerry Lewis (comedian) owned a bunch of guns. They were sold at auction a few years ago. He owned many J frame S&W snub nose .38s (mostly 36s and the like) which he routinely carried.

Charlton Heston once said there were more closet gun owners in Hollywood than gays.

I have a Colt Cobra which I'm pretty sure (model) Ruby used to cap Oswald in the belly.

Also have a 1903 and John Dillinger PEN1 famously carried a Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless and was found on his person when he was shot down outside the Biograph.

There was a thread a few days back going on Presidents and guns, not sure if it was brought up but George Jr. was given a personal sidearm of saddam's, a Glock18. I was always curious if George ever starts feeling frisky after a few toddies and takes his Glock18 on the back 40 and rips, lol. :D BTW, are Presidents past and present exempt from NFA regs???

I'm pretty sure Ted Nugent's (papa nugeo_O) favorite sidearm and personal carry guns are G20 and G29 in 10mm.

I'll come back and edit, I know more will come to mind and will add as I think of them.... interesting topic.

I saw the guns Ted Nugent had up for sale. I was really disappointed. I was expecting Elvis grade highly engraved Smith and Wessons, Colts. They were all just common off the shelf guns

There was a local person selling guns owned by the actor James Earl Jones. They were all low end guns. Think Ruger P series guns. I was kind of shocked by that

If I had the cash they had I would have some Elvis grade S&W and Colt revolvers

Richard Boone had a BHP. Jack Lord, who was very anti-gun, had a couple of .25 ACP pistols. Rick Perry carries a .380.

William Boyd hunted with a Savage 99 in .250-3000.

Mel Torme had SAAs.

Alton Brown likes AR-15 rifles.

I was in a long-gone St. Louis gun store when boxer Henry Armstrong came in to pick up two fancy SAAs.

Col. Townsend Whelen let me shoot his Winchester High Wall in .22 K Hornet

Brown is a SCAR fan. Anthony Zimmern certainly is a shooter on his shows but hasn't mentioned personally ownership. Dr. Oakley, Yukon vet - her hubby and kid have posed with a moose or elk they took - don't remember which. Dr. Pol and his family have had episodes where they blazed away with a variety of handguns from Js up to bigger things. They also hunted the mighty pumpkin with some 22 LR rifles.

Griffith was an Infantryman during the Normandy Campaign, and was a hunter and Trap shooter. At least one episode of his show was about Trap Shooting.

Griffith never served in the military. He was exempted due back issues.

He was a talented entertainer.

In the show with Griffith shooting Trap he was beaten by Gail Davis (Annie Oakley on TV), herself a shooter in real life.
