Most famous gun you have never owned or fired

Unless they're worth several thousand dollars or more and are possibly going to be damaged in some way I'd fire them. At least a few mags worth to get an idea of what they're like.

The one I described was insured by my wife's grandmother at $175,000. I am not sure why. After she passed last year, both Lugers and a Colt 1911 disappeared so my mother-in-law wouldn't sell them. I got a letter 2 weeks ago from the family attorney that they are being safely stored in a safety deposit box under a pseudonym.

I guess one of the .45 or .380 prototypes might be worth that much. Or perhaps one of the GL Babys.....IIRC they think there are 1-4 in existence.

MP-40. I have wanted one ever since seeing Where Eagles Dare as a kid.
I got to shoot one in the early 2000's...2002 I think. It was awesome. I actually liked it quite s bit better than the MP-5 that we also rented. The MP-5 felt kind of 'dead'. The MP-5 felt to heavy to be a subgun.

In contrast the MP-40 felt alive and handy, sort of like a M1 Carbine. Getting single shots off and controlled butsts was easy.

My moment of glory...

Maybe owned by someone famous? Or infamous rather? I don't know. That's the only way I can see it justifying insurance for $175,000.

Browning,

Sweet! I have never so much as held one.
I won a bunch of money in Las Vegas and that's one of the things that we did with it. We went and rented an MP 5 and that MP 40 and shot a couple thousand rounds through them.

Also bought a Ruger .22 Target pistol.

I have shot and owned lots of famous guns, but the most expensive gun I ever shot was a one of one Perazzi that was loaned to me at a skeet shoot by a friend when my gun broke. It was in the pouring down rain, after the event I asked if he needed me to clean it or anything, he said " No, I got it, I am kinda' particular about how guns that are wet are cleaned". I told him it sure was pretty. He told me that it was a $400k gun, exhibition grade made for his daughter. I told him I would not have taken it out in the rain if I knew that. He said he owned no guns to look at. It is a work of art.

Save your pennies and get one! At least you live in the United States, where one is allowed to own a class III firearm.

I can't have one. I live in Illinois. :(

Shooting the MP-40 is like aiming a hose. PPSH42 on the other hand, three round bursts are about all I can handle.

Well I sure don't know what the condition of the MP 40 you shot was or how you were taught to handle it - BUT - I can consistantly fire 2 or 3 rd bursts - my choice - thru my MP 40 shooter and out to 100+ meters I can easily shred a man sized target!!! I can do this aimed fire from the shoulder OR free fire from the hip.
WHAT is a PPSH 42? Or did you mean a 41?
Sarge

That's what I meant. Extremely easy to handle and hit with.

That is a good friend. I've had friends let me shoot their Perazzis' at Trap, more like basic MX-8's, not custom guns. I've also had the chance to shoot a Kreighoff 3200, (couldn't tell the difference from a Remington 3200) many BT-99's (may favorite Trap gun)and Citori's, Beretta 686's, even a Ljutic MonoGun. Still like the BT-99 and 870 TB best.

Owned a select fire FN FAL that I picked up from an old vet back when I lived in AZ.

My only famous firearm is the M1 Garand my father-in-law left me.The receiver is marked 280,XXX making it July 1942. I have yet to shoot it but look forward to it. IMG_0170.JPG
