FAR reliablity

I don't know the problem about 1911 with a gas-retarted fixed barrel system, but in the FAR System the tilting on the barrel is reduced or annulled by the reduction of tolerances and for that you have the top of reliability.
If you have idea of some chritical point explain, but I believe that in any moment of which you have strenght the pistol is in the top of its reliability.

Giolli; Corsica-

Welcome aboard. Always good to see some folks from the land of hot cars and sexy firearms. (I'm Italian, BTW; 3rd generation in the USA).

I have read some on the FAR system, and I must admit I am still skeptical of high-pressure, large caliber cartridges in non-delayed blow-back guns, regardless of case head strength. It has been my experience with fixed-barrel blowbacks that they are particularly load-sensitive. It would seem that short-recoil has been the preferred system for a reason, as most current blowback guns in substantial calibers have very heavy bolts/slides to slow the recoil. And as aforementioned, a fixed barrel does not necessarily equate consistent shot placement unless the sights are fixed as well. The only real solution for accuracy with moving parts is tighter tolerances, regardless of operating system. (although a fixed barrel would have an advantage with a frame-mounted sight system, ie holo-sight).

I guess I'll stay tuned and see what develops. Would be great if Tanfoglio could find a decent importer. EAA still has not imported the stock custom (which I definitely want in 10mm). Well, there's always BATFE form 6.....but what a PITA!:barf:

Giolli Joker,

Yes, I was referring to the NCG gun. A couple years ago on 1911Forum, somebody sent their pistol to NCG for the full conversion and it never ran reliably, after multiple trips back, due to feed issues.

Specifically, it would be helpful if a third party posted a review of a STI/SV 2011 in a 0.40" caliber in "Limited" configuration, or a STI/SV 2011 in a 0.355" caliber in "Open" configuration.

These represent the vast majority of pistols shot in USPSA (IPSC) in the United States.

If a system works well with single stack frames (it does) it should do the same with the double stack ones you've mentioned...
I think that most of the F.A.R. handguns built for pratical shooting are Tanfoglios, maybe corsica can tell you something more...

Prototype

I have found a photo of a prototype we have made for Tanfoglio. I'm not sure I can post here the photo, I have posted it on alt.binaries.pictures.weapons under thew title Tanfoglio.
Dou you believe this solution can be good for a fixed barrel? We have some problem to be followed by Tanfoglio about the prototype and in Italy is a problem because every time you make a change you are obliged to make a new number of catalog for the weapon. Probably in your market with he help of a gunsmith we can realize what here in Italy ask too much long time.
Ciao
Maurizio

Chuck, no, the Hogue is a hesitation lock action with design characteristics of the Benelli B76 and Wolf Ultramatic. In fact, I think the designer came from Wolf.
FAR is straight blowback depending on a casehead so thick that nothing has extracted but solid brass until after the bullet has left the muzzle. If you go back in history, the Remington P51 accomplished the same thing with an internal breechblock that let the chambered case blow back just the thickness of the standard brass, then be delayed by picking up the mass of the whole slide.

It's strange because ..............

........ we have received a lot of contests before having the patent for the USA.
Can you inform me better Jim about what you have explained in your mail?
To cover our patent we have done another patent about the possibility that someone use a block in the interior of the pistol to avoid that someone can copy the FAR System.
Evidently you will have a slide that can be dismounted only by rotating it and this isn't very comfortable to do.
Thank you and best regards
Maurizio
