Favorite Handgun?

Glock 19 Gen4

My firearms are tools and these, particularly this one, just plain work, exceedingly well

Back when I was a teen-ager I suppose, maybe a little older, I read everything I could find about handguns (which meant revolvers in those days) trying to figure out what kind I wanted, when I finally got (1) old enough, and (2) the money to buy my first one. Everything I read, which was mostly Skeeter Skelton, and Bill Jordan, convinced me that the Smith and Wesson Model 19 in 357 Magnum was the "best all 'round" handgun. My first handgun therefore was a Model 19.

Nothing I've seen since has really changed my mind. I guess I've owned a half dozen...maybe more over the years. Today, I've got two, a -3 and a -4. And there is a 66-4 on layaway.

19-3

19-4

Model 15's and 18's are pretty high up on my list too.

My all time favorite shooter overall is hands down a Colt Delta Elite 10mm. I'm a big 10mm fan and have been for quite some time. (Basically since I started handloading!)
It isn't the most practical, tactical or efficient I suppose, but it can get the job done for just about anything and is just plain fun to shoot. Commercial 10mm FMJ loaded up and anyone can shoot it; its as timid as a full size .45 auto. Crank up the pressure/power factor though and it is about as formidable as you can get in a practical semi auto.

If I had to choose this favorite based on use though; like a go to war pistol favorite or all time carry favorite, end of the world pistol etc it would have to be the good old Glock 19 though. (Or 17) I've had 6 over the years of carrying generations and configurations and all have been 100% dead reliable with whatever I choose to feed it. If it's a live round, the gun digests it. I can also shoot it very accurately every time I pull it out. For combat/defense use, my favorite would have to be this because if I could only own one pistol it would be a Glock 19.

View attachment 226518 Would be on of these two. Depending on how I'm dressed or what I'm doing.
Great combo. Love that you chose the 938 as well over the 238. My way of thinking honestly in this day in age the .380 should just about fall to the wayside for defensive handguns. Unless your a very petite framed person, female, older and frail or otherwise extensively recoil sensitive; the 9mm should pretty much be the bottom floor of defensive selections really. Size isn't much of a factor anymore; we've got a ton of beautiful and reliable Tiny 9mms.
(Like the 938)
I own, in the tiny 9 class, an M&P Shield9, 938 Nitron, PF9, P11. The P11 is more of a thin Glock26 though as its double stack, but still very small. In all honesty though, while I Can and do shoot these small guns very well, I don't particularly enjoy it. I enjoy shooting 3-8" revolvers, full and commander size 1911s etc. But shooting combat defensive micro pistols while effective just isn't enjoyable for me personally.

When I got back into fiery-arms about 11 years ago,,,
The first thing I did was to search out a S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece.

63 fiery-arms later it's still my personal favorite,,,
Followed closely by my Model 18 in .22 LR.

After them it would be my Beretta Cheetahs,,,
Models 85 & 87.

I have more powerful guns and more expensive guns,,,
But these are my all-time personal favorites.

Glock 19 for me. Thousands of rounds without any sort of trouble. It's little brother the 43 comes in close second as it's my carry gun. But the 19 is my nightstand buddy and winter carry.

Really tough to name a favorite, but if I had to choose one - it'd be my Beretta 92FS Vertec. Favorite revolver would be a toss up between the 686 S&W 4" or the 586....

DSC09177.JPG When I saw this thread, I expected to be odd man out on my favorite, it seems like it would be the least practical as a carry gun compared to all the newer available choices in any caliber. I see, though, I'm in good company. My favorite is also my most recent handgun purchase, a Springfield 1911A2. I love the balance, how smooth the action is, how nicely and naturally it points, the fact there's no plastic in it, and I shoot it as well as any other handgun I have. It also conceals as well or better than the compacts I have. Who cares if it only holds 7+1?

Probably the 2 1/2" Python I owned many years ago. I was in Cabela's today, they had one in the Gun Library, only $5995. I paid $300 for mine in 1988, had to sell it to get the water turned back on.

I count it as my favorite because I bought it and my Dad's 4" Python from him after the Saint Paul PD became the first Dept. in the nation to issue the Glock 17 &19. It had an action job done by Glenn Crosby, the SPPD Armorer at the time, and was smooth and accurate.
Of currently owned ones, my PT1911AR. Everything I wanted in a 1911, and more, for a great price.

I'm torn it would be between my 5" SR 1911 & my old Dan Wesson model 15-2 .357 (I only have the 4" barrel for it). I seldom carry either of them but I really like them both. It is hard to pick a favorite though because in my mind each of them serve a different purpose & I find myself attached to each of them for different reasons.

This won't come as a surprise to many of you:

My Bulgarian Makarov PM (Пистолет Макарова):

This is the gun I carry every day to protect my life, and it is my favorite to shoot at the range. It has been flawlessly reliable over thousands of rounds, is very accurate, has acceptable power for the task, and has an extremely interesting military history. The simplicity and excellence of design, interchangeable parts requiring no hand fitting from anywhere in the world, using only 27 total parts, ability to be detail stripped with nothing more than the standard issue cleaning rod, economical price of ammunition, modest recoil, very safe design, and continued use by the Russian military, are all proof to me that this is without a doubt my most favorite pistol. I love introducing people to the greatness of comrade Makarov's design.

Long live the PM! :D
I really like my EG PM you are not alone.
And yes 9x19 trimmed to 9x18 works just fine.

I would have to say, the same one that's my avatar, a Springfield Range Officer in 9mm.
With my arthritic hands, I'm gravitating more towards 9mm these days. Don't know what I'm going to do with all the 45's I have.

Being the good Samaritan that I am, I'll hang on to them for you. Safe keeping and all.;)
