Curiousity has gotten the best of me, polymer pistols are really starting to grow on me. Before I used to be an all steel and/or alloy guy. I'm really starting to see the darkside with some of the polymer guns availalble on the market. Heck, my last two purchases have been polymer pistols from HK.

Let's keep it civil, please. Please state your polymer platform of choice; and why you prefer the platform compared to other options? Comparisons of different platforms are highly encouraged.

For example, after trying numerous polymer pistols, I've found the platform that fits me best. It all started with an HK P2000 9mm V3. I was looking for a compact pistol, lightweight and something that fit in my hand. That gun was it. Then there was the type of action. My preferred type of action was SAO (C1, C&L etc..), next would be DA/SA, with DAO trailing far far behind. When range day came, I found the P2k exceptionally easy to shoot, and very fun also. The single action trigger quite good, though double action needed some work. It ended up being my carry pistol.

Now, I recently picked up a USP .45, which I have to admit has been a fun pistol. The ability to carry in condition one was it's main selling point. The gun points well, though I still need time to shoot well with it. Main gripe is the proprietary rails, requiring an adapter to mount a weaponlight that isn't a UTL. Otherwise this gun will soon be my nightstand gun.

I've come to appreciate the simpleness of these pistols. The ability to be beat around and used hard, the low maintenance required, and it's durability. I have no qualms about shooting these pistols in the rain, nor feeling the need to baby them. While not really "the darkside," I'm coming awfully close to it.

So, what is your favorite plastic platform, and why do you like it compared to others?

Glock.

HK is overpriced and has a really crappy mag release. As does the P99.

XD has no parts availability, otherwise I might have one.

The M&P looks promising but just isn't proven like the Glock.

I can take apart my Glock down to every little component with just a 3/32 punch. And fast. It's never jammed even once and never rusted. It just plain works.

P-99 in 40 S&W

The P-99 really took me surprise. Some folks don't like it, but I was astounded by the way it felt the moment I picked it up. The folks at Walther did some serious research to design that grip to make a generic grip work. Added to the incredible pointability, they have 3 interchangeable grip inserts. A simple process to find the one that fits you "ever just so"...

The Sights are remarkably easy to pick up, the Striker release is intuitive, the slide release is perfect (for me) and the Mag release, although unusual seems to be just the ticket. Single action trigger breaks like glass and the Double action is comfortable. Designed for one-hand operation, I really like it.

I have shot it next to my Python and had a hard time putting it down for accuracy, (that speaks volumes).

The only detractor I have found is the little nubby inside the trigger guard. It's designed to guide you finger to the trigger, it only guides my finger to a band-aid for the blister it causes. I considered a Dremel more than once.

That being said, I have shot a ton of Glocks and I would never own one.
They are Accurate, Rugged & Reliable (note: all capitalized). Just something about that "Safe action trigger". Nope, not for me.

There are some here that badmouth Rugers but this P97 suits me just fine. fairly light, it goes bang every time and shoots where I point it. My everyday companion.

The SIG Pro got my vote. I've shot Glocks, XDs, and Sigmas of various flavors, and I still like the SIG Pro best. The takedown is similar to a 1911, and it's a little thicker in the slide. The difference IMO is in the trigger. The DA trigger is smoother, and breaks cleaner on the Pro than the P-series pistols, and it feels like it's a little lighter in comparison. The SA trigger on the Pro is similar to the P-series. I've heard it called the most underrated pistol on the market. It's definitely underrated. Try one before you make a final decision if possible, and make sure you get an alternate grip if you buy one. My only gripe with the pistol is that removing the grips can border on irritating. Let us know what you end up going with!

Other

This year I discovered that 1911s fit me quite well, and I shoot them better than other handguns. I've also really come to like the venerable old 45 ACP cartridge. Consequently the next poly pistol I buy will likely be in 45 ACP. I've yet to shoot a poly frame 1911 type pistol, but I'll have to change that once I return from overseas.

In a non 1911 there are several poly frame guns I like for different reasons. The HK USP has good ergos (for my hands) and I like the safety that allows for C&L carry. The upcoming HK 45 is something I'll be looking at closely when it's released. Springfield did a great job adapting the XD to 45 ACP, they're almost single action, the grip safety is a nice touch, and the grip angle is rather 1911-esque. I like the intial impressions I got handling S&W's M&P in 9mm, so their upcoming 45 rendition will be on my list to look at as well. I have the same interest in FN's upcoming 45 ACP chambered FNP, particularly if it's offered in the SA variant like the 9mm and 40 S&W FNPs are. In this regard I'm really waiting on the new crop of 45 ACP poly frame guns to hit the market so I can compare them to what's already available, and find a favorite standard size pistol.

Leaving the service type full size & compact handguns I have found a favorie pocket/backup size pistol - The Kel Tec P3AT. I owned a P-11 for a few months, but traded it away after getting the P3AT. For no profile pocket carry the P3AT, though smaller in caliber, is a true winner with it's improved trigger, ultra thin profile, and ultralight weight. The P3AT is the epitome of a pocket pistol using modern materials to push the envelope in size & weight for caliber at a very affordable price.

Looks like the Glock guys must work the 3-11 shift...

And the Taurus guys on the graveyard shift are gonna be miffed that you didn't include their holy grail...

Love the P99 AS

But only the AS. Have a compact in 9MM and full size in 40&W.

It offers the safety of DAO carry with the accuracy & sweet trigger pull of a SA. No external hammer to snag, a breeze to field strip. High capicty, compact, reliable, lightweight, incredibly accurate. There's even an affordable .22 available for cheap practice in basically the same platform.

What's not to love?

Richard, I keep telling you about it from 3 years ago. Now I finally drilled into your head and you found yourself the HK is superior than your jamomatic 1911 :D

Usually this is coming from someone who doesn't own one, never bought one, or even shot one. Usually don't know what they the hell they're talking about either. Same damn thing like the GLOCK basher. Typical internet armchair commando.

Walther P99

The little "nuuby" inside the trigger guard has never given me problems, but I work with my hands for a living and they have hard calluses on them.

Plus, I love the magazine release.
