I got my daughter a ruger precision rimfire for her birthday and put my Gen I Vortex PST 4-16FFP scope on top, I had her shooting yesterday at 50yds off a bench, she laid down a 3 shot .25" group with CCI SV and a 15 shot .7" group with federal HV match. let's just say that with a ckye-pod, good scope a and a rear bag she can hold close to 1MOA groups at 50yds "all day"

She had a great time, but I want to keep her interested, engaged and excited. hitting the bulls eye on a shoot n see is fun, but popping reactive targets is more fun

I am looking at some of the birchwood 22lr spinners https://shop.birchwoodcasey.com/products/world-of-targets-duplex-rimfire-spinning-target.html
or the Champion Target auto reset targets http://www.championtarget.com/targets/metal/auto_reset.aspx (the hog, coyote and maybe a dinosaur)

these are cheap, portable a good size for a kid to shoot a 22LR at ranges from 50-200 yds with good conditions.

I know they won't last forever and I should NOT shoot them with a 9mm or a 5.56. . . .what are your recommendations for 22LR targets that could be taken to a range (that allows it) that makes a 22LR more fun?

one requirement is that I can buy it, it is portable, doesn't leave behind undesirable stuff, and is fun

If your range will allow it try eggs. About a buck a dozen and VERY reactive. Also biodegradable. The spinners are fun too. A little competition always keeps it fun and unless you are damn great it sounds like she could provide you with some stiff competition. Have fun.

I have one of the spinner ones, some self healing swingers, and one of the three legged ones that bounces around when you hit it. The GG gilrs enjoy them and this old geezer does too.

never had much money, i used and still use old pizza boxes they are portable self standing, they make little mess to. some even have designs on them for aim points. i do miss going down to the old dump on the farm to shoot old appliances and old farm equipment lol.

I thought the same thing but 4.99 for a hook and the gongs not much more make a lot of fun for the kids and me and last. I double up on the shepherds hooks to hold lanterns on fishing trips.

or cheap gongs stop by your local town garage, when the replace the plows cutting edges. most time if they did not scrap them yet they will give them to you. cut the in to squares with a chop saw or cut off wheel.

If she is on a bench or prone with time to get comfortable I will lose if I use my 10/22 and she uses her RPR22. It’s a sweet shooting gun and so far she has the patience and trigger control to make it count

I use this one for rimfire, my daughter likes using it too.

My favorite thing to use is shotgun hulls. I like them a little more for "precision" shooting, ringing steel get's pretty easy at 50 yards, even with the little spinner.
I also have this one and enjoy it. Golf balls are also fun to shoot.

I spent the money on a Do All dueling tree, but it's disappointing as it doesn't flip the majority of the time.

Balloons, blow them up any size for any yardage.
My daughter used to love the orange clay targets put all over the place so she could pick them off with a AR and no scope

These are the ones I use the most. The racks fold up for travel and even have wheels on one to roll it around.

You get the fun of reactive targets without having to all down range to set them back up. Makes 100 yd + plinking a lot more fun.

The self sealing balls and prairie dogs from do all are lots of fun and last a long time when shot with a 22.

action target dueling tree for 22 is nice and durable and small enough you don't have to disassemble it when transporting.

i saw a guy shoot charcoal suspended on a string. what's neat is when he left i shot the smaller chunks of charcoal that got flung off and it makes a puff of black powder when you hit it. you can keep shooting it till it gets small enough to be unobtrusive.

The range I use does not allow glass or metal targets. I use the 12 oz. plastic Coke bottles. I drink the Coke first then fill the bottle 1/3 to 1/2 full of water. When hit they either fall over or if you hit in the water they jump five to twenty feet in the air! Leave the cap on after filling. They don't break apart so cleanup is easy.

I've always liked using empty saline solution bottles. They are easy to see (bright white), they'll take many, many hits, they don't leave sharp broken pieces behind and they 'clean up' with little effort and they are even 'recycle-able'.

On an open uncontrolled range I like diet soda cans. Like Shasta or store brand you can get for like $.10 a can. Diet doesn't attract yellerjackets and isn't sticky when YOU CLEAN UP YOUR MESS.

I took a 2 x 4 and drilled 10 holes 4 inches apart of the diameter of golf tees. Push a tee in each hole, put an old shag ball on top.
Make two of them for a challenge. Pick similar weapons and an agreed upon distance. Last summer it was S&W 15-22s at 50 yards. Shoot till you miss. Shoot off all the balls, then come back and shoot the tees. First to miss resets everything and supplies the ammo for the next round. Move to 60 yards, fire away.

We were shooting out beyond 100 yards. Talk about hold over.
