My girlfriend and I have been together for 7 years. A few nights ago my girlfriend and I got into a verbal fight. She grabbed onto my shirt and kicked me so I reached down and grabbed her hand and squeezed. That is the full extent of what happened. The neighbors heard us yelling at each other and called the police. The police show up and take us seperate ways. I did not want her to get in trouble so I did not mention that she kicked me and hit me. When they asked her what happened she said nothing. He then asked if I touched her and she said no. Then he said that if she did not tell him the whole story she could get in trouble. She then said that I had grabbed her hand and squeezed. He then came back to me and asked if I squeezed her hand and I said I had squeezed her hand to make her let go of me and he arrested me on misdemeanor domestic violence. Confused, my girlfriend asked what they were doing and told them she did not want to press charges and he said she had no choice, the state is pressing charges and she would have to testify against me.
Then without a warrant or consent they went in my house and confiscated all of my guns and turned them over to the federal government. In 1996 a federal law was passed banning gun ownership from anyone CONVICTED of Domestic Violence. I have not yet been convicted, I don't quite understand that.
I spent the night in jail and posted bond. The government now has $3000 worth of guns and I cannot own any. If I am found guilty and lose the right to guns it will be a death sentance. I cannot deal with going through life defenceless....
